studying...

May 02 2006

Or not studying.  What I'm doing instead of studying.  Shhhh.  Don't tell Mr. Huffman.

Anyways.

I have now entered the scratchy-throat-one-wimpy-cough-every-four-seconds stage of my combination allergies from hell and sinus infection.

I object!  To... everything.  So there.

Speaking of objecting: we're starting our mock Supreme Court trials in JROTC.  Exciting, no?  Our first trial is tomorrow.  The issue in question:  Should a woman who has given up her child for adoption be allowed to regain custody after the adoptive parents have obtained custody?

Or something that means about the same thing.  Two teams of "attorneys" will argue against each other.  I'm either a judge or a spectator tomorrow.  I don't have to try a case until next week.  Justin Bingham and I are arguing against Clinton Holladay and Kristin Michaels over whether or not a man should be able to get a court order to stop his wife from aborting their child [Justin and I are arguing the "yes" side].

Kristin and I picked that case because we could both see both sides of the argument.  We've even been helping each other find precedents and laws to bolster our arguments.

Something tells me we wouldn't actually make good lawyers.  :p

my afternoon disappeared

May 01 2006

Came home from school, feeling uber blah.

Searched in vain for APUSH review book.  (I couldn't find it because it was sitting in plain view, obviously.)  Laid down on the couch to read.

Funny thing, your eyes have to be open to read, unless you read brail.  Which I don't.  I don't even have any brail books.  But anyways.  I realized I was losing conciousness and that I would have to ask my dad where my APUSH book went when he got home.

I proceeded to pass out for four hours.

Do I feel rested?

Sort of.

Do I feel well rested?

Ow.

"I poke his face but still he ignores me."

Helloooooooo?  Anybody home?  Hellooooooo?

No comments in two whole entries.  This isn't like you guys.  I suppose this has been a sluggish week for phusebox - especially now that it's blocked from RCS computers.

Anyways.  Sick today!  Bad allergies causing sinus and ear fluid build up (again) and a mild virus making my throat swell up.  Huzzah!  Skipped school, but still went to Starbucks this afternoon so I could get an APUSH review book from Cameron.

Brian quizzed me on a few questions.  Pretty sure I AM DOOOOOOOOOMED.  I'm not even joking.  AP exam in a week?  HAH!  Maybe if I'd started studying at the beginning of this month, like I'd planned, I'd have a snowflake's chance in Hades...  ARGH.

I just want the school year to be over about... now.  That'd be nice.

By the by... if you've never seen nor heard of a little tv show called Norhtern Exposure - let me just tell you:  You are missing out hella bad.  It is freaking AMAZING.  I seriously can't understand why anyone would not like this show.

Watch it.  WATCH IT NOW!

awards

April 27 2006

I'm a captain now...  I'm officially the S-1 as well.

Whooooo.  *blows kazoo, throws confetti*

Whoa-dang am I tired... and I've still got a Scarlet Letter quiz to study for.

Can you say "last-minute-morning-of-quiz spark notes?"

I probably could if I weren't so drowsy.  And if my ears and throat didn't hurt so much.  We didn't cheer as much at this year's awards ceremony as we did last year's, but the cheering that we did do was a lot louder...

In short:  OW.

Happy Almost Friday!

tecta. tecta. tecta inflamma.

April 24 2006

Pretty sure I no likey the school.  It is lame.  Times a million.

My early day teacher is a jerk.  But no matter. I'll be out of his class in about a month.

Autumn Boynton and I are going to have a weenie and marshmallow roast when we get sent to hell.  :p

I have a(nother) light lab to do. I better get going.

April 22 2006

Whoa-dang.... I love Latin conventions.

Seriously.  You don't even understand.

We placed in ONE event.  Sean got third place in reading comprehension or something.  Yeah, pretty sure that we had no freaking idea what the passage was about, but we all placed in the top 10.  Apparently everyone else was more confused than we were.

And we didn't even pass the qualifying round of certamen.  They give all the schools that want to compete a prelimnary test and then seed the top nine teams against each other so that the very best teams don't have to play each other in the first round.  We didn't even make the top nine.  How sad are we?

Overall, though.  My weekend was... I mean has been so far... convention screws with your sense of time.  It's hard to believe it's only Saturday evening.  Anyways.  My weekend so far has been pretty darn amazing.  I love my Latin kids.  Everything on my list of predictions happened, and then some.

Like the stripper lessons.  Those were new.  But hey, at least I learned something, right?  ;)  And we invented a new form of silent "applause" for schools that we don't like.  For example, turning MUS's little U hand symbol into F-U.  Heh heh.

Next year... going to be even more amazing.  William and I have decided that we are going to drug the freshmen, steal $50 from their wallets, load them on the bus, and drag them to Memphis.  (Next year's con is at Rhodes Univ.)  They don't have a choice.

We will have something prepared for roll call.  We will have something prepared for the spirit competition.  We will have a banner.  We will have correct t-shirts.  We will place in more than one test (maybe).  And we will at least make ninth seed in certamen.

We are determined!  RAR!

I gotta go see Wiz-O-Oz in  about an hour.  Latah, homedizzles.

April 19 2006

Yep, it's that time of year again.  That time when Oaklands nerdiest and most perverted load up on a bus and head out to some distant school to compete in a series of competitions that gauge our skill, talent, and total lack of actually having real lives.

That's right.  Tennessee Junior Classical League state convention!  Woooooooooohoooooooooo!  Oakland's biggest Latin losers are loading up and shipping out to Rossview High School in Clarksville for two days.

This year the lineup is:  Sean Holden, James Holder, Cora Rowland, Ella Strawman, Sarah Vermillion, and William West representing for Latin 2.  And Michael Thoe for Latin 3.

That's it.  Not joking.  Seven people.  Six 2's and one 3.  We actually had a 1 and another 3 going, but they couldn't make it.

Hahahaha....  Can't wait.  If it's anything like last year, there will be lots of card playing, eating, dirty joke making, test failing, and cross-dressing.  I even made a CD so that "Seandra" and "Jasmina" have a variety of dance songs to pick from.

Oh yeah - JCLers.  Our t-shirts?  Look like CRIZNAP.  We totally botched them.  There were a lot errors on the shirt and Denn-Dogg accidentally approved the artwork before they were corrected.

Anyways. It's 10 PM.  I have yet more laundry and packing and shiz to do.  Later, all!

monday afternoon

April 17 2006

I feel bored and restless.  Perhaps I shall give DDR another go?  I haven't played since last week when I was tired and uncoordinated and pms-y to the point of crying because I sucked so bad at DDR.  However, now that I am back to normal hormone and caffine levels, I might want to give it another chance.

Anyways.

Next year... Senior year.  Gah.  I remember sitting in first grade, trying to imgine living for another ten whole years and being in high school.  It seemed absolutely impossible.  Now, it seems like the enourmousness of life is hitting me all at once.  I can't stop thinking about next year, five years, ten years, even fifty years from now.  It all seems so close and so far away.

Growing up messes with your head.

. . . . I'm hungry.  I think I shall snack.

*does the dance of uber victory*

BNXO:  Nina Meins

the big 1-7

April 04 2006

My berfday was alright.  Nothing too exciting or amazing happened, but it wasn't the bottom of the suckage barrel either.

Got three really nifty presents today.  Okay, one really awesome one and two kind of smart-ass ones.

Michael gave me his chess-piece painting.  ^_^  I loooooooooves it.

Brian and Nemanja went shopping at the Dollar Tree apparently.  :p  They got me a nerf rocket and a little teddy bear that says "Get Well Soon."  Both of these items, by the way, have been named Puska.  (There's supposed to be a little curly thingy over the s, but my computer won't make that symbol.)

I hope 17 turns out a lot better than 16 did.... Whooo.  Glad that's over.

Well here's to R-rated movies, a 12:00 AM curfew, and donating blood!

break is over. that makes me sad.

April 03 2006
Hey hey tomorrow's my berfday.

Let's do the time warp again.

crap.

March 31 2006

I had a post.  It went away.

To sum it up:

No job at Buckle.

My mom just got me Kingdom Hearts II.  *does the dance of nerdy glee*  I forsee little sleep for me tonight.

panic mode

March 30 2006

If you could see me right now, you would see that I am now making to face of "ohhhhhhhhhcrap."

Went to turn in job applications today.  I was expecting a smile and nod, and then an eventual call saying, "Um you suck" or "Come in for an interview."

Apparently Buckle is too efficient to look at applications first.  They took it from me, and then without looking at it, scheduled me for an interview.  So yeah.  I have my first job interview ever tomorrow night at six pm.  At a store whose clothes I never wear.

*mildly panics*

spring break

March 24 2006

...started seven hours ago.

And so far I have been asleep for four of them.

Didn't sleep well this week.  Hopefully getting a good night's sleep tonight will help me catch up.

Your thoughts

March 23 2006

Ever wonder what it feels like to be leaving school early to go hang out with two great friends, one of which is driving behind you...

and then you hear a slam and look in your rearview mirror...

and that friend's driver side door is completely concave and the mirror has been shattered out?

I never did.  But now I don't have to, because I know.  I'll give you a hint.  It lies somewhere between hysterical panic and complete numbness.

You wouldn't have recognized me if you'd seen me running to the car.  Me, one of the slowest runners in all of JROTC, in my class A uniform, was full on sprinting.  Man, if I could keep that pace for my mile run I'd be done in three minutes.

Upon arriving at the collision site, about 50 yards from where I pulled off the road and jumped out of my car, I realized that Stephanie was not unconcious, bleeding to death, or suffering and immediate medical danger.  Her face was bleeding because of the glass spray from the shattered window, but she was mostly just distressed about the state of her 2003 Sunfire, which has been in her posession a mere two months.

Matt, the guy who t-boned her car as she turned left out of a parking lot, was completely cool about everything.  I was talking to Stephanie about calling an ambulance and he said, "Sarah, use my phone," and tossed it to me through his open windows.  In the end, I wound up calling Kristin, the other friend we were going to be hanging out with [who had left ahead of us] and Matt called the police and paramedics.

Mandy, who was nearby, went to get an SRO and the school nurse.  Nathan and his dad [neither of whom I'm acquainted with, even though I occasionally see Nathan around school] stopped to help Stephanie and make sure she was okay.  Nathan got out in the middle of Oakland Drive and started directing traffic.  :p

In the end, everything except Stephanie's car was okay.  Her door and probably a front panel are going to need replacing.  Her insurance is going to go up.  And she got a ticket for failure to yield when exiting a parking lot.

Stephanie herself is okay.  Kristin and I went to my house so I could change clothes (I got glass on my uniform from leaning through Stephanie's window and crawling into her car to get her stuff out.)  Then we went and met Stephanie and her dad at the ER.  They cleaned her face, smothered it with disinfectant, and told her to put neosporin on it every night to keep scarring down.

Whoo.

Wouldn't mind never going through that again.

Oh yeah... and ACI was totally cool.  I made a few mistakes, but I think as a whole we did very well.

rain, rain... come in and stay a while!

March 20 2006

The weather today was putrid.  And I loved it!  That weather saved me from running a mile today.  Tomorrow is practice formation during fifth period.  Then wednesday is the blue and white football game during fifth and sixth period.

Heck yes.

That made my week a lot better.

There is other suckage, though.  Progress report time again.  Can you guess how many of Sarah's classes she's failing this time?  I'll give you a hint.  It's more than two.

Physics, Latin, and Pre Calculus all equal THE DEVIL.  I was actually doing my homework there for a while too.  Still failing.

Went over my Wisc IQ test thingy with my therapist today.  Apparently for my skill level I'm pretty darn deficient in processing speed.  On the majority of the test I scored in the 130-140 range.  On processing speed, I scored about 80.  These are all out of average scores of 100.  It makes me feel a little less lame about always being the last one done with a test and often having to stay after class is over to finish work.  It also helps explain my aversion to homework.

I'm applying for jobs next week.  Any suggestions?

you have to get through the storm to get the rainbow

March 19 2006

This week:

1 mile run towmorrow
ACI Thursday  [[faints at the thought]]
APUSH quiz over 60 pages worth of reading on Thursday
Model of the Temple of Vesta due Friday in Latin

...Woah. Wait.  I just realized that we don't have to go back to class after ACI.... that means... NO QUIZ FOR SARAH!  WOOOOOOT.  But shhhhhh!  Don't tell Mr. Huffman.  He'll just make me take it on wednesday.  If he doesn't know, I can just "forget."

But hey! That one mile.  It's gonna kick.  my.  ass.

me + running = no.

Just have to remind myself that on the other side of this week lies spring break!  Yessss.  And the week after that lies my berfday!  Heck yes.

I just have to survive this sucky ass week.

voicemail

March 15 2006

4:30 PM.  Don't have much homework.  Decide to visit my mom.  But first, I'm going to call my dad to let him know I won't be there when he comes home from work.  This requires turning on my cellular telephone.

I have three new voicemails.  I know one of the first one, which I got yesterday, is from Sean and Ella and it says something about "Hey, where are you?  We're waiting on you."

Surprise!  No it's not.  Instead, it is my mother's husband.  [Probably called shortly after I got to school yesterday.]

"Hey Sarah, it's Tully.  I just wanted to let you know that your mom's in the hospital.  She's fine, she just had a mild stroke.  She's in room number blah blah and you can reach her by dialing such-and-such number.  She's fine.  She's walking and talking; they just want to keep her for some tests...."

My mouth falls open.  I stare at my phone, thinking it lies to me.  Then, in a moment of hating myself and feeling like the worst daughter in the history of the universe, I let slip a bad word.  I'll give you a hint.

It starts with 'f.'

And ends with 'uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.'

Message number two: from my grandmother.  I have a dentist appointment tomorrow after school.  Message number three: also my grandmother.  I'm supposed to call her as soon as I get it [Tully told her he hadn't been able to reach me.]

So I call my grandmother, confirm my dentist appointment and make sure all my info on mom is up to date.  Then I call Vanderbilt Medical Center and ask to be connected to my mamoo's room.

I was about to go steal my dad's car and drive up to Vanderbilt and stay until they were absolutely sure that everything was fine and dandy and they were ready to release her.  But I was a little late.  By the time I called her they said, "Eat something, sign an assload of paperwork, and then you're free to go."

She got a little woozy by the time she got to M'boro, so I met her just off of 840, got her some dinner, and took her the rest of the way home.  She was kind of tired and didn't want to stay up very long, but I don't blame her.

So the verdict is that she had two itty-bitty-teeny-tiny strokes, one right after the other.  There doesn't appear to be any permanent brain or nerve damage [beyond damage caused by previous illnesses or bouts of comatose-ness].  So she's fine.  She's exhausted, but she should be back to normal in the next few days.

. . . . . . . Doesn't change the fact that I feel like the world's worst daughter for leaving my mom in a hospital by herself for two days when she'd had two strokes.  She hates hospitals by the way, especially staying there alone overnight.  She's not mad at me, though.  So I guess it's all good.

--Oh yes.  Special thank you to anyone who left me a random comment on the last entry.  ^_^
