ahhhh... good times

July 15 2006

Jane came over to my house yesterday.

I don't know who decided to pump her up on caffine, but let me tell you... a person with -3% body fat on caffine?  Woah, nelly.  She was a little hyper.  Just a little.  She insisted on making a documentary about me.

It is quite possibly the dumbest and lamest thing we have ever done, but it was highly entertaining.  She was going to put in her myspace, but I don't know if she ever finished it.  If she does and sends me a link, I'll post it here so you can see the sheer lameness of the "suckumentary" about me.

Part of the documentary was about me cleaning my car.  Hah... There are some good pictures from that one.  Like the amazing dried up french fry.  And the mass of papers and folders that are stuck together with what we will assume is dried soda.  There was also a piece of dried (what we believe to be) beef jerkey, but we decided not to document that particular piece.

My car be junk-free now.  I tried to vacuum out the interior, but our dust buster be busted.  That didn't work out so well.

So!  If you are among those that I frequently give rides to (Mady, pretty much), REJOICE!  For you now have something besides empty plastic bottles and fast food paper bags to rest your feet on.

As for today?  Did the lazy thing and then went to see Nacho Libre with Megan.  Whooooooo... That cracked me up pretty hard.  Followed by frozen custard at Ritter's with Megan.  Which was in turn followed by a hanging out and music burning fest at Megan's house until 11:45 struck and it was time for me to go home.

The first Clerks movie is playing at the Belcourt Theatre in Hillsboro Village next weekend.  Anyone interested in going and supporting a non-profit independent theatre?

coming soon to a parking lot near you: THE BATMOBILE RETURNS

July 13 2006

It's true!  My baby's alive!  After his engine attack spasm thing and a two week coma, my clunky little automobile is back on the road.

Will I miss the air conditioned cab of my aunt's truck?  Yes, yes, I will.  Very much so.

Do I miss it enough to pay $30-$40 a week in gas?

Ummm.  NO.

I've been spoiled for the past two weeks.  When I tried to drive my car away from my aunt's house, it was all lurchy and clunky and I was thinking to myself, "Why is the steering wheel so stiff?"

This is what two weeks of air conditioning and power steering and good brakes does to you.  You get soft.

Ah well, a few more days and I'm sure I'll be back on my feet.  I'll be back to wind-blown hair and constantly sweating and hoping to god that my brakes are going to work well enough to keep me from plowing into the jerk who decided to skip across three lanes without signaling.

It's good to have my baby back.

I feel much better now...

July 13 2006

The iPod-Depeche Mode thing is still a little messed up, but all of the songs are on there (even if they're not in the right order and refuse to go in the right order) and that's what counts.

As a matter of fact, my sister-in-law gave me some handy advice on how to possibly make them go in the right order.  I might have to try that.

Anyways.  The point is, listening to the entire Playing the Angel album last night, as well as Various Artists for the Masses:  A Tribute to Depeche Mode as I fell asleep was very theraputic.  And I feel lots better now.

I also feel better because I got to hang out with Carlton for an hour this morning because I accidentally showed up an hour early for work.  Then after work, I got to go to La Siesta with Carlton and Mady.  And both Carlos and Alexandro were working today.  Mmmm...

Went to visit my mommy, but she is terribly ill.  I wouldn't be very surprised if she called me at 2 AM and asked me to take her to the Vandy ER.  (I did that a lot last summer.)  But my brother, his faince, and their neighbors are well.  I got to visit with them for a while.

Then to Michael's, originally to watch Unleashed, but wound up watching Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.  Sweet bajeezus, I do love that movie.

Sooooooo... Who's excited about Clerks 2?  *raises hand*

someone is about to die an incredibly violent death

July 11 2006

Got my new Depeche Mode CD.  ((huggles it))

Three of the tracks won't load into iTunes.

... blink... blink

Look at the BRAND NEW CD, on which, of course, there are zero fingerprints and zero scratches.

Play them in iTunes.  No skips or bumps or imperfections in the songs whatsoever.

So this means that after going through the hassle of buying a physical disc, I'm still going to have to illegally pirate three of the tracks if I want to play it on my iPod.

And of course, it's very hard to find copies of the songs that aren't corrupted or viruses.

Oh yes... someone at Apple or Sire Records or possibly just the next person to get on my nerves is going to die... very horribly and painfully and violently.

On the upside, I found out that I got a 3 on my APUSH exam.  *waves tiny flag*  Wooooohooooo... ((growl))

::edit::

Sooo I just tried loading one of the pirated tracks that really does play just fine on my computer into iTunes... and it said, "Umm, I need to convert this."  Fine.  It needs to convert most of the pirated stuff I put in there.

Oh but noooooo... there's a problem with converting it.

Apparently there's some law against having "Suffer Well" by Depeche Mode in your iTunes music library, no matter how you get it in there.

My first paycheck:  $73.65

...Excuse me?

Turns out that the pay period these checks are for began about a week and a half before I started at the Cookie Store.

So my first paycheck is a little less than half of what I thought it was going to be.

Also, I've got it, but can't cash it yet.  Because apparently when my bank changed names or whatever, they also changed what time they close.  They now close at 4 PM, whereas (if I remember it correctly) they used to close at 4:30 PM.  So at 4:08 PM, I'm out of luck.

So... after I pay my dad back for the tickets and fill up my aunt's truck with gas... there goes my paycheck.

F*%# you, Monday. F**********%# you.

precious and fragile things need special handling

July 09 2006

Never fear... My friends came to the rescue to save me from boredom yesterday.

Brian and Jessica stopped by the store while I was at work.  And Jessica ordered one of my favoritest things to make EVERRRR.

Apparently I'm the only person at the Cookie Store who enjoys making lemonade, orangeade, and limeade.  Seriously, I love cutting the fruits in half and smooshing them to pulpy smithereens in the hand juicer.  Very cathardic.  So now whenever someone orders a fruit-ade drink, whoever took the order just asks me to make it.  (In exchange, Maja gets to make her favorite: Hawaiian Shave Ice... I hate that stuff.)

Anyways.

After work, Megan and I got together for some good old fashioned hanging out.  First, to El Torero, for I had not had dinner yet.  Then to Sonic, because everyone needs a little brownie batter blast every now and then.  Then, to Hastings, for dirty t-shirts, board games called "What the F*ck?" and Jesus action figures are funny.  Then to Megan's because when in doubt, go home and hang out.

By Megan's generosity, I am now babysitting 22 of her babies.  There are even two of them that she said I could adopt for my very own.

Never fear, Megan. They are safe and I should have them back home in a few days.

So why the song lyrics in the title line?  Because I get my first paycheck tomorrow... and I have an exciting list of things to spend money on...

  • 3 Pirates of the Caribbean 2 tickets from last week

  • Playing the Angel by Depeche Mode

  • new tongue jewelry : p

  • a SportsCom membership

  • sushi with Mady

  • Actually, I'll probably run out of money haflway through the list...

Sooo yesh.  Shpeedboat.  I need to take a shower, loads some CDs onto Pierre, and go to beddy-bye.  G'night, all!

7 pm

July 08 2006

Sooo... Who feels like being so kind as to save me from a terrible boring fate after I get off work today?

Or, if you feel like making work a little less terribly boring, I'll be at the Cookie Store from 2 to 7.  Feel free to stop by and complain because cookies with icing are more expensive than cookies that don't or because your icee is too liquidy or because the credit card machine takes too long.

Pirates of the Caribbean Dance Challenge

July 06 2006

Have you ever wondered what lots of pirates leaping and twirling and pirouetting with incredible synchronisity would be like?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HE_BMbPBY2I

Probably something like that.

spread the word

July 03 2006

Earlier this afternoon (or technically yesterday afternoon) my dad got on fandango...

He ordered NINE tickets for Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest.

Yeah, that's right.  NINE.

So if you happen to be

  • Me

  • Jane

  • Cameron

  • Cameron's friend David

  • Kelly

  • Brian

  • Aaron

  • Rachel
OR

  • Aaron's friend Julia (I think that's her name...)

Then you're busy this coming Friday from about 8 PM to 3 or 4 AM.

You also owe my Dad $9.50.  (Excluding Jane, Cameron, and David; they already paid.)

And if you're not

  • Me

  • Jane

  • Cameron

  • Cameron's friend David

  • Kelly

  • Brian

  • Aaron

  • Rachel

OR

  • Aaron's friend Julia (I think that's her name...)

...Then you're out of luck.

*much gloatage*

And if you're Megan or Mady... we're really sorry you couldn't go.  *big sad face goes here*

Dark Side of the Rainbow

July 02 2006

Ever heard of it?  That's what you call that mythical combination of The Wizard of Oz and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.  Urban legend?  I thought so.  I thought so, that is, until I went to see the Belcourt Theatre's late night show of Dark Side of the Rainbow.

Ho-ly crap.

I always thought that it was something that stoners made up.  Because hey, when you've just dropped three tabs of acid, whatever you're looking at will probably match up right along with whatever you're listening to.

But it's real!  I mean, it wasn't second for second, note for note, but whoadang.  90% of the time, whenever the mood or tone of the scene changed, so did the music.

There were some amazing lyrical coincidences too.  Words that don't necissarily directly apply to the scene, but capture the scene's idea and spirit.  If you don't believe me, just watch it for yourself.

The weirdest thing was, when the album was done, they just started it over.  It it still worked!  The music still matched up!

And what started playing the instant Dorothy opened the door to Oz?  And what started playing when she, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion walked up to ask permission to see the Wizard?

"Money".  (Don't get why that's a big deal?  Go look up William Jennings Bryan and his connection to The Wizard of Oz.)

Anyways.  I'm writing this at 2:47 AM.  I'm a little out of it right now.  The point is, this urban legend is true.  And if I ever decide to try drugs when I'm in college, I'm definately staying in, renting the Wizard of Oz, and listening to Dark Side of the Moon.

(Also, to support the independent Belcourt Theatre, my dad and I got nifty Dark Side of the Rainbow t-shirts and posters.  They have flying monkeys on them.)

no cookies for you

July 01 2006

Ugh...  I feel like such a sissy.  I'm completely worn out after only two days of work.  Well, today it didn't help that I got about four hours of sleep, got up for my senior pictures at 6 AM, had my first meal around noon, wandered around aimlessly with Mady, and then went to work for four and a half hours.

Pretty exhausting.

So the pictures this morning were alright.  I think my outdoor photographer was frustrated with me.  According to my grandmother, I smile the way my grandpa smiles; I just can't do it of my own free will.  The only way you actually get anything close to a smile is if I'm laughing.  So, after the "I Like to Move It Move It" song wore off (apparently, Megan had the same photographer later in the day), he switched to reciting lines from "I'm a Little Teapot."

Hey, it was dumb, but it worked.  The funniest by far, though, was the lady who did the indoor shots.  I managed some sort of cool face and was trying to hold it for the camera and she said, "Oh, you are so sassy right now!"  I lost it.  It wasn't just one of those oh-my-face-slipped-I'll-but-now-I've-got-it back deals.  I was seized by a fit of the giggles for a good fifteen seconds.

Sooo.  Work!  If we stay busy, it's no big deal.  Time seems to fly by when you're making icee after lemonade after shaved ice after bag of cookies.  But if there's little business and all there is to do is decorate cookies and clean... it's a pretty big bore.  And by the end of my shift, I'm itching to sit down for a solid 24 hours or throw myself down on a bed and sleep for forever.

I have been getting a lot of work, though!  If my schedule doesn't change, by my first paycheck I will have gotten a good 21 hours.  That's $115 before taxes and the $6 taken out for my uniform shirt.

And when my schedule picks up, I'll probably be averaging about 20 hours a week instead of every two weeks.  So that'll be nice.

Hooray for employment!

as the whips of labor crack on my back...

June 28 2006

Yeah, whatever.

Working at the Cookie Store is insanely easy.  The worst part is remembering what everyone wants (especially big family groups) and getting it all punched into the cash register properly.

Oh yes, and I get a raise every three months, not six like most places.  And if our store does well, we get a $50-$100 bonus every three months.  *score*

Shooooo.  Shpeedboat.

Hah, you would not believe some of the stuff this store does to save money.  It's kind of hilarious.

They let employees have all the free soda they want as long as they drink out of their own cups...  Must resist the temptation to run an IV from the coke fountain into my veins.

Everyone seems pretty nice there.  Well, everyone I've met so far.

Anyways.  I gots laundry to do and kitchen to clean and when my dad gets home -- SUSHI TO EAT!  We've tried to avoid eating out, especially at really spiznensive places.  So we haven't had sushi for mooooonths.

*is excited*

Oh yesh!  If you wish to harass me at my place of employment (no, I can't give you free cookies), drop by on Friday from 5 to close or Saturday from 1 to 7.

my car had a stroke... or an anneurism or something...

June 28 2006

So.  Here's my day:

8 AM:  Awake to Chris, Jane's stepdaddy, hammering away on wall.  Yep, that's right.  At 8 AM.

9 AM:  Wake up again, even though it takes me a good thirty seconds to realize that that annoying cell phone noise isn't Jane's phone, it's mine.

11-ish AM:  Take my Hanyay to go eat lunch with me, my Granny, and my Aunt Kiki.  Roly Poly is nummy.

12-ish PM to 4-ish PM:  I'm in HELLLLLLLLLLLLLL.  Shopping = teh devil.  As I told everyone at Fazoli's:  When I take over the world, everyone will be a nudist.  And if I think you're too ugly or too nice looking as a nudist, I'll execute you.  --On the bright side, I now have all the clothes I need for my senior pictures!

4:15 PM - 9:30 PM:  My Granny takes me back to my car, parked outside my Aunt's house.  I pop the clutch and turn the key.  Nothing happens.  My air shudders a little bit, but besides that, nadda.  Zip.

My Granny tries to jump my car.

It doesn't work.

It's dead.  Just sitting there.  Engine's not turning over or anything.

I panic.  I think that my car has had an engine attack and died forever for good.  I'm already thinking about my internet eulogy for Bruce "The Batmobile" Wayne.  (He was a piece of crap car... but he chugged on like the little Nissan that could...)

My aunt says, "Hey, my neighbor's a mechanic.  I'll have him check it out when he gets home.  In the mean time, take my truck with the screaching clutch of doom."

So I take it.  I go to Jane's, then to MTSU to visit my Gracie at Governor's School, and then to Fazoli's.

Around 9:30, my auntie calls me to tell me that the reason my engine wouldn't turn over is because my battery was SUPREMELY dead.  So dead that jumping it wouldn't give it enough juice to start the engine.  So, her mechanic buddy charged it up for me, is supposedly putting it back in my car in the near future, and I can trade back vehicles tomorrow.

To be honest, I'm a little disappointed.  I was having fun driving the truck (I forgot how much I like driving a big vehicle).  Also, the truck had air conditioning, something that my car has been lacking for a year or so and will never have again.

Ah well, the car search continues and hopefully I'll have a new(er) vehicle before Bruce tries to cut out on me again.

I have an announcement to make...

June 25 2006

I...  am employed!

Maja, I owe you the world's biggest favor.  ^_^

I start Wednesday.  Whoo!   Cookies, ahoy!

::edit::

Also, my Dad told me that with our mobile phone service package, we have unlimited media messaging.  And I realized what that meant... I can send as many pictures from my phone to my email as I want!

So, I realized that I do in fact have a very limited use digital camera!  It can't do anything too complicated, but if you look at the pictures I just recently posted, you'll see that it's not impossible to take a good picture with a camera phone.

And for those of you who wanted to see my new do:  Voila.

::edit again::

Let the record show that for the first time in human history... Sarah Vermillion has the most remarked entry in the past 24 hours.  Whoo!

fearlessSAMV: Hey, my last entry is now the most remarked on phusebox!
fearlessSAMV: *throws confetti*
ohsjenny07: awesome!
ohsjenny07: i've only ever had a most remarked picture
fearlessSAMV: Unless of course... perhaps it's running on EST and "the last 24 hours" is really only since about 10 minutes ago...
ohsjenny07: lol
fearlessSAMV: Hmm.  That would be disappointing.
fearlessSAMV: Oh well, I choose to believe that it's because I'm better than everyone else.

the sky opened up and tried to eat me for lunch

June 23 2006

That thunderstorm today... hella scary.  Especially if the "rain" is actually in fact a single wall of water continuously falling on your car.  And especially if your AC is non-functional so your windows fog, making it even harder to see.  And especially if you try to remedy the above mentioned situation by opening your window an inch or two and the rain is falling so hard that it hurts when it hits your face.

I was skeert.

But I was only about 10 minutes late to my hair appointment.  Woot!  I likes my new do.  It probably won't look this nice tomorrow, but then again, I don't have all the junk my hairdresser put in it to make it behave and look pretty.

So, not worried about my hair.

As for those dental strip thingies.... holy bajeezus.

Did anyone else know that the 7 day kit of crest dental whitening strips costs $40.00?  Because I didn't.

My heart almost burst outta my ribcage at the pharmacy today.  Don't get me wrong, I had the money.  It's just that the money happened to belong to my Dad, and I had no idea it was going to cost that much.

Anyways.  I gotta thing to get to.  Ciao, homies.

tralalalala summer is boring but it

June 22 2006

I had an interview at the Cookie Store earlier this week.  If I get the job I might get to work with my buddies Maja and Amanda, so that'll be neat.

Urgh.  My senior pictures are next friday.  I'm nervous.  Know why?

Because I'm doing all this stuff to prepare and I'm afraid that I'll just make it worse.  For instance, I'm going to use those whitening strips on my teeth.  They seem pretty easy not to mess up, but I am the girl who almost gave herself chemical burns with Veet.

I'm getting new clothes in the few days before, because that's the only time my grandmother can take me shopping.  Shopping isn't exactly my dad's deal, and my mom doesn't exactly have a healthy bank account.  So there you have it.  I'm afraid that we won't be able to find anything in the right size or that looks like  decent human being might wear it.  Because you know, that's the sort of thing that tends to happen to me when I go shopping.

I need to get a tan because I'm still pasty white.  Knowing me, I'll lay out too long or not use strong enough SPF and I'll turn myself into a human lobster.

My biggest worry is that I'm getting a haircut tomorrow afternoon.  Now, only once in my life have I gotten a seriously traumatizing haircut - I was nine years old, and the dumb girl cutting my hair thought "shoulder length" and "ear length" were the same thing.

Anyways.

I'm afraid of mutilating my hair and not being able to do anything about it before my pictures.

Also, I can't go get my hair done up all perdy the day of the picture because my session is at 8 A-friggin-M.  I can't think of any salons that are open at 8 AM, let alone before 8 AM.  I'm not very hair savvy myself, and I'm only remotely reasonable at putting on my own makeup (I wear it maybe thrice a year).

Bottom line, I'm nervous.  I'm not exactly the world's most photogenic person and I'm afraid of making myself even less photogenic.

AGH.

No fun.

When I have nothing to put off doing, I have no reason to update.

June 15 2006

Golly gee, summer's come and taken my favorite hobby away. Can't procrastinate if you've got nothing to do.

I've been job applying like crazy.  This week I've hit McAllister's, Bi-Lo, Food Lion, Victoria's Secret, and Blue Coast Burrito.  I've picked up an application for The Cookie Store at the mall, and I should be able to turn it in in the next couple of days.

When extreme boredom seeps in, I can usually be found at the mall in search of coffee that doesn't taste like dirt or looking at way-too-expensive things that wouldn't fit me anyways.

Any other low-budget entertainment ideas?  Until I gets me a job, I've got nothing to do.

I did get to go tongue ring shopping today, finally replaced my metal industrial bar with a reasonably sized barbell.  I got a short metal bar with sparkly clearish-purple plastic beads and a retainer with an even shorter bar and flat flesh-colored beads.

Isn't that just exhilirating?

t-u-e-s-d-a-y-NIGHT!

June 14 2006

Small group at Fazoli's Night tonight.

Although, there are going to be some people who will be very happy to discover upon their return to Mufreesboro that the bottomless bowls of pasta have returned to Fazoli's.  People like Grace Langeland and Brian King.  Well, Grace is still in Murfreesboro, she's just confined to the MTSU campus.

Mady, Cameron, Megan and I had a lovely time just the four of us, though.  A funny conversation led to the birth of the newest group on my list... And Brian, if you're mad, it's nothing personal, I swear.

So I've been trying to guide Mady through Kingdom Hearts (the first) without a strategy guide.  I remember most of what's in the strategy guide because I've read it so many times, but not having the maps is killing me when I try to explain to her where stuff is.  'Tis rather frustrating.  Methinks I'm gonna call up my brother and my sister and law and ask them if I can borrow my strategy guide back for Madykins.

ALSO... I got a wonderful new dress today.  Mady and I were poking around the mall yesterday when we wandered into Gap.  There on a rack was this amazifying teal and green sundress contraption.  And being Gap, they actually had more sizes than 0-10.  As a matter of fact, they had a 14.  Just on the off chance that a 14 still fit me, I took to the dressing room to try on.  And it fit.  Off the rack... a dress fit me.  That never happens.  Hardly anything, especially dresses, fits me off the rack. (The curse of having a flat chest and a gargantuan backside.)

So.  I put it on 48 hour hold, did some first class eyelash batting and pouting in the direction of my dad's bank account, came back the next day, and got mah dress!  Oh, I love it so!  I do believe that this dress is going to be one of my senior picture outfits.

Mmm... it is rare that I have a good clothes-finding experience.  It was a nice change of pace.

MTSU looks a whole lot better from this angle.

June 09 2006

So.  Eating lunch off the dollar menu at McDonald's with Jane and Grace today.

For some reason, we decided to apartment-looking.

We've still got a whole year of high school.  We haven't even decided where we want to go to college.  And we decided to go looking at apartments.  Yeah, kind of off-the-wall.

We looked at University Gables, College Suites, and College Grove.  You know, those kind of community-esque rent by room apartments?

Option of 4 bedroom, 2 bath or 4 bedroom, 4 bath.

Pre-furnished: with full size beds, not lousy twin beds like in dorms.  All utilities covered (except University Gables doesn't cover cable).  All major appliances.  They all have mini computer labs and gyms with 24 hour access.  They all have reasonably sized pools.

University Gables and College Suites cost about the same, College Grove is a little cheaper than the others.

So... if we all decide on MTSU, it's looking like Me, Jane, Grace, and Carlton?

It certainly makes MTSU seem like a better option.  Still close to home and family and friends, but at the same time on my own.

At least I've got a good option set up if I decide that I don't like my out of state schools (or if they don't accept me).

because nothing actually entertaining is happening in my life

June 08 2006

Another dumb video.  But this one isn't a political parody or anything.  This is just amazing-ness in a can.

Or in a 2-liter bottle, as it so happens.

http://eepybird.com/dcm1.html

Diet Coke, anyone?
