Seafood, Brooklyn, and Ice Cream

June 10 2005
Wow. What a night. I am sitting here in my apartment, my feet are throbbing, and I am exhausted.

I just spent the last 4 hours WALKING all over southern Manhattan.

Lane, Ellie, my sister Bethany, and I all started the night by going to a great seafood restaurant called the Paris (and had to walk through the foul smelling fish markets to get there). However, there was a guy at the bar in the next room that kept saying "ARRRRR!" like a pirate. It cracked us up every single time.

After we ate, we decided it would be fun to go up on the Brooklyn bridge. Little did we know, even though we were almost right under the bridge when we left the restaurant, we had to walk a LONG ways to the end of the bridge. We finally found the ped. walkway and walked ALL THE WAY TO BROOKLYN.

So, in Brooklyn, we decided to get ice cream and found this little grocery store called the Pea ?Something? and we each got a PINT of ice cream. On the way back, we walked back over the bridge, while every once in a while, rotating ice cream bins with each other to try a new flavor.

We walked ALL the way back across and found this really cool place right next to City Hall and the NYPD and we sat on a bench and talked. Finally, we treked home, but not before trying to catch subways that did not come, pitching pennies into rat holes, and running to catch subways that were not ours.

All in all, I am exhausted but it is definitely the most fun that I have had since I moved here!!! Whew! and all of it was pretty spur of the moments... even walking to Brooklyn to get ice cream.

The view of the city from the bridge is AMAZING. All I had was my camera phone, but I will upload those photos later.

My sister is going back home tomorrow so I have to get up fairly early to get her to the airport. It was really great to spend one last awesome night with her!

I think I am going to have fun here.

***EDIT*** and earlier today, Bethany and I went to Chinatown and then walked in Central Park. Which was highlighted by Bethany telling the sketch artists that "The sketches are good..." as we walked past.

Where I Live Now

June 08 2005
So, Bethany and I just got back from walking around near my building. For a relation for those I have not already told, I am living in a tall building in the financial district of NYC called THE EXCHANGE (on the 11th floor, for those who care). And no, I do not have a great view... it is just a view of the building across the street, but what do you expect in NYC?). However, the building is AMAZING!

I live a few blocks away from where the twin towers used to reside (lower tip of Manhattan). I live just down the street from the New York Stock Exchange and right around the corner from THE TRUMP TOWER, in fact, I can look right into it from my roof.

Oh yeah! I have a roof... well, most people have a roof, but atop my 23-story apartment building, there is an observation deck. Lane and I went up there last night. WOW. The NYC night lights from the ground are amazing, but from atop a tall building... AMAZING. It is almost as good as looking at the stars. ;-)

And the weather was perfect last night. Not too cool, not too hot, with a slight breeze. I love New York.

My older sister, bethany is here for the rest of the week, so I look forward to hanging out with her until Saturday.

I miss EVERYBODY back at home. Right now, Diversion at Belle Aire is starting in about an hour back home. I will miss being there in the tech booth, but I guess God had bigger plans for me!

Boro Goodbyes

June 06 2005
Well, guys. I am guessing this will be my last post from the Boro that I have known as my home for almost 11 years. Tomorrow morning, I leave for New York City. Tomorrow really begins a new chapter in my life. It is an opportunity that I embrace fully.

I am going to miss almost everything about Murfreesboro including my wonderfull family, my great friends, the Belle Aire Youth group, etc...

things i will miss the most:
- hanging out with my siblings late at night and laughing so hard we cry or until mom comes out in her nightgown to scold us for waking up the neighbors
- making joke after joke with jason taylor... while WE and we alone laugh and coming up with great insiders like the Napoleon Dynamite Gospel
- stars
- sitting under the stars, talking with amazing people
- driving down a country road with my windows down, music blarring, and the sun approaching sunset status
- youth trips
- the tech team at diversion
- chris madison and his randomness
- yards of green grass
- not knowing if murfreesboro is too small or too big
- sunday meals... friends... random discusions... and throwing food
- turtle-man
- my mom caring for me when a girl breaks my heart
- my brother and his randomness
- listening to andy davis while with someone that appreciates it as much as i do
- late-night starbucks with friends
- acclaim
- hanging out on the steps... anyone that has been to my house knows what this means
- my huge window in my room
- seeing my family every day
- living with my family
- living in a city where people know me almost wherever i go
- creative team
- taking a break from work and playing piano on the grand at church
- my big back yard
- scene-it
- throwing a baseball with my dad or brother
- roller-blading
- eating on the deck in the summer time
- birthday parties
- my little sister's randomness
- bethany's late-night hyper moods
- my jaguars
- wednesday night meals at belle aire with tech talk
- knowing that there is always someone there for me if i need them

Yes, tomorrow will be the biggest change of my life. I am leaving everything I have known since I was in 4th grade and entering a new life.

Pray for me as I go.

You guys mean the world to me. I will see you soon!

123 Users

June 06 2005
Ok. The site is picking up some speed. We are currently at 123 users, which is great for a site that has existed only a little over one week.

Keep them coming.

Post a link to your PhuseBox page on other sites that you have. Link to

http://phusebox.net/user/whatever your user name is

(get your custom link on YOUR "blog management page") - eventually this link will become simpler, i promise.

or simply link to http://phusebox.net

the more people, the better. PhuseBox will continue to get better as more and more people join.

Thanks for all your help spreading the site!!!

You as Your Friend Bug

June 06 2005
*** EDIT: THIS BUG HAS NOW BEEN FIXED! ***

I have had several people tell me that they are showing up several times as their own friends (ex. you show up in your own friend box 18 times)...

This is a bug caused by logging in (or going to a user page) with the user name case wrong (Such a NaThAn instead of nathan)...

Currently, I do not know exactly why this is happening, but I will look into it. For the time being, just make sure that you login with your user name in the same format as when you registered.

I will fix this bug as soon as I can figure out the root of the problem. Thanks everyone!

Thanks: 108,000 hits in June

June 05 2005
Hey everyone! Thanks for making the first week of PhuseBox a huge hit! In just one week of the beta launch, we have 107 users and the PhuseBox website received 108,000 hits already this month (its only June 5th) and received 32,657 just yesterday.

Keep up the work. Keep spreading the site! I placed a registration link on the main page now so you can just send anyone to phusebox.net now and tell them to hit REGISTER.

As always, we are still in early beta testing so let me know of any bugs or error messages that you come across especially when posting an entry or uploading photos. And, if you think of features that you would like to see, let me know.

Thanks again!

-nathan

NEXT UP: Advanced User Searching, Blog Search, New Friend Photos Page, Photo "Grabbing," an Intelligent Find People Page, an Intelligent Main Page, Password Changing Pannel, and I am fianlly going to fix the post-time bug (+2 hours).

Carnival

June 04 2005

photo from nathan

So. I went to the carnival for the first time tonight. The rides made my stomach a little uneasy, but I was able to survive.

It turned out to be a really fun night, and I even ran into Kyle Scoble at the mall.

Fun times. Sad times. Because there will be no more "fun times" in the Boro for me. :-(

Hometowns

June 03 2005
I added "hometown" to the profile option so you can find people in your hometown... update your profiles.

Find People

June 03 2005
Well, until I can program a better way to find people on the site, I have created a new section in the menu bar called FIND PEOPLE.

Currently, This lists every account on the site so you can find other users and add them to be your friends.

Later, this will include a user search and intelligent suggestions for who you would most likely be friends with. But for now, bare with me.

I really need to make the find people more intelligent... maybe that will be my next step because it is hard for some people to get started on the site.

Let me know any suggestions you have on finding people...

Congrats

June 03 2005
Congrats to Amy Powers for taking full advantage of photo uploading... So far, she has uploaded 58 photos... rock on.

Well, I am making note of all the bugs that you have told me. The "publish entry" button bug on edit entry is now fixed.

I am slowly getting through all of them. Keep sending them to me and let me know what is going wrong.

Thanks and keep spreading the site!

Pagation

June 03 2005
My next step is to create a better pagation system. This is like the "Next Page" and "Previous Page" links that break lots of content up into separate pages.

Currently, I have a functional system, but only one that I programmed in 5 minutes and the Next Page link is even on the wrong side from where it needs to be.

I want to write some code that will check for the number of pages and give not only a prev. page and next page link, but also links for all the pages.

So, be expecting that soon. Keep messaging me with any errors of problems that you run into. This helps me know what bugs to fix.

We are getting close to 100 users, so keep spreading the site! Thanks!

Best in Firefox

June 02 2005
Well, PhuseBox is best viewed in FireFox instead of Internet Explorer. If you do not have FireFox, get it here.

Get Firefox!
For all the people on Internet Explorer and Slimbrowser, I will have to do some more testing on those browsers. Currently, I am hearing that the site does not like right on those browsers. I will work at fixing that soon.

later.
