iPods and iTunes
July 05 2005
Garrett has a way of surprising me. He bought an iPod online yesterday... a regular iPod on sale for $250... only $50 more than my mini... and it holds five times more songs than mine does...
Speaking of my iPod mini, I now have 245 songs. I've been pretty slow about uploading songs from my CDs... and I haven't bought any from the iTunes store yet. I think I might soon though. I would encourage everyone with an iPod to check out the songs from the Live 8 concerts and buy a few. Some of the proceeds go toward the cause for Africa, and that's awesome! There are a few I decided to buy soon. However...
I noticed that all of the songs are by mainstream artists. The only Christian artist I know of even involved with Live 8 was Jars of Clay (unless you count U2, but Bono confuses me so much I don't bother to label them or him anything).
Am I the only one who sees the problem with this? I mean... as Christians we should be setting the example. There are many non-Christian artists involved with this that are soooo far away from God. As you scroll through the songs, note that some are labeled "explict". They don't know God! Why should they love the Africans enough to care for them? NOT TO SAY THEY CAN'T... BUT they don't even know about God's love like we do. We should be the leaders in caring for others. Sometimes, however, we fail at that role, and that's quite unfortunate... and quite sad.

this whole Live 8 thing confused me. i mean people do have good hearts, i mean you can have a good heart and not be a christian, but sometimes i think that the artists that performed, just wanted the gift baskets the people provided for them... kind of goes against the whole meaning for the concerts huh?

It's great that you want some of the songs from Live 8, but this is one situation where I'd prefer if people downloaded them for free. Admission to the concerts were free, the AOL online streams were free, these iTunes downloads should be free.

I went to the Live8 Concert in Philadelphia while on my trip...it was kind of different, and they really didn't do a good job of trying to raise money for it all. They said all they wanted to do was raise awareness but if they had charged money to go to it then they could've used that money to provide food for those who are suffering from poverty. Also, I have to say the concert itself was too crowded and wasn't quite as organized as I thought. It was a good concert though! :)

In response to the original post, as well as the remarks...
I went to a U2 concert and heard Bono talk about the "One" campaign, which as I understand is involved with Live 8. He said that the purpose of "One' is awareness because if we as Americans become aware that there are children dying because they do not have immunizations that cost 20 cents and our country is not taking an active role in helping, then we will hopefully take a stand and tell our law makers that this is unacceptable. If everyone makes it a priority then they have no choice but to listen. This may affect the economy in a way that might make most Americans mad, which is why they need the awareness of what is being done.
I totally agree that Christians should be fighting for love, peace, and anything else. There was a tour called, "In the name of love" that came to Belle-Aire with Todd Agnew, Barlow Girl, Building 429, and Starfield. They were helping Africa by having World Vison tables so people could adopt children who had become orphans because their parents died of aids. I think we all need to take a look outside of ourselves, our city, and even our country and see what we can do to better the world we live in. What is more important, a new car or feeding thousands of people? A new lip gloss, or an immunization that saves a life? You see my point. I am hoping off the soap box now....
