a plea for advice to the computer gurus

July 10 2005
So, my grandmother gave me a lap top computer for graduation. So, it is a Dell Inspiron 2600. So, its got a Pentium III m processor and windows XP. And it's good and all, but not really what i want, and it is kinda slow. So, if you have a certain amount of knowledge about these particular things dealing with computers and such, please leave me a remark about what kind of lap top i should get.
In other news i have to go to Orlando FL this weekend with people from my old high school, that will pretty much suck. The only redeeming points will be that i get to go to some amusement park or something like that.
Peace.

I'm TRYING to get my A+ certification so I'm not an absolute expert but I know my way around. It kinda depends on your money situation. The Dell Inspiron 2600 has a clockspeed of like 1.0 GHz and I saw 1.2 and that really isn't that fast at all. A couple of years ago yeah but computers these days have like 3.0-4.0 GHz. If I were you I'd go check out some Compaqs. The processor (Pentium III) is only half of it too, you can always upgrade your RAM. The 2600 comes with 256 MB installed but you can upgrade all the way to 512 MB which would really help out but that would only make sense if you upgraded your Pentium chip too (has to be Pentium though) so you can either upgrade your 2600 or get a new one and if you do THAT then I suggest you go with Compaq. The Dell Ispiron 2600 cost like 500-900 depending on whereyou get it but if you throw double that on there you could get triple the power. Basically the more money the more power so I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. That's my two cents... *looks it over* or.. 5 dollars..

That laptop sounds quite like mine, but I'm not sure if it's the exact same thing. The only time mine is real slow is when it's online, but that's because we have stupid dial up. Anyhow, I don't have enough computer knowledge to help you... sorry. I wouldn't complain much about going to Orlando... even with people from Riverdale... well... depending on WHO from Riverdale...

I would look at the Powerbook G4 for Apple. They are good laptops and you can get Microsoft Word and such for them. That is what I am thinking about getting before UTK...Later

you don't need an apple unless you want to do creative technical things like nathan moore. And if u don't know how to do them already, then I wouldn't suggest an ibook. All i'll tell u is don't end up buying a hp...they are terrible.
