The 15-Minute Sleep Curse

September 25 2005
I have trouble sleeping. End of story. Usually, it takes a good while for me to actually get to sleep after going to bed. That's okay. I have learned to cope with this, however, occationally, I will fall asleep for about 15 minutes and then suddenly wake up. This is when I know I am doomed. I then spend the next 4 hours trying to go to sleep, listening to music, trying to go to sleep again, turning on infomercials on television, trying to go to sleep yet again, listening to a podcasts, and finally, after my body just cannot stay awake any more, I will finally fall asleep.

This situation is where I sit right now. I went to bed several hours ago and fell asleep for 15 minutes and woke up and now it is 4:30 am and I am still not able to sleep. Looks like I will be sleeping all Sunday afternoon... hmm.

i got the same problem man. after many months, i found four hours a night to be enough. gives me more time to write useless comments like these. use this gift of time wisely.

poor Nathan-are you still using your help pills? It would be really bad if I were you because I would order all the stuff off of the infomercials. Have you ever done that?

Try counting slowly backwards from 100 and only focus on those numbers which we all know you love! Um but every number go deed and deeper into relaxing until you reach a point you can't relax any further then just continue to focus on the numbers, don't let you mind wonder or you will just lay there thinking about a million things. It works somtimes for me... Dunno if it will for u though. Have a great week, see ay thursday or friday!

Here's an exercise I've been using for years to help me sleep... 1) close your eyes and keep them closed for the rest of the steps 2) look to the right 3)look up 4) look left 5) look down 6) cross your eyes 7)repeat. Hope that helps!

A slightly less healthy method that I've been using (occasionally) for years: Benadryl. A regular dose an hour before bed, that stuff will knock you out. Or you could just try sleeping pills.
