it's my choice...

thought for the day:

if it's a woman choice of what to do with her body, why don't you choose to not sleep with people and therefore ensure that you don't get pregnant? birth control anyone?

Well, for an educated middle class girl with a well-balanced family life this would be the most sensible option. But for many people in poverty, they are not taught that their bodies are to be cared for or how easily STDs spread or how easy it is to get pregnant. Also, because of their insecurities (stemming from their negative attachment relationships with their parents or most of the time one parent) they are easily pulled into bad relationships with guys. The guys demand sex and the girls often times think their body is their best asset and they are getting much needed attention so they stay. This is why these people stay in abusive relationships as well. They have had no help or encouragement in becoming a secure person and have no identity. They quickly become part of a vicious cycle of abuse in the lower class and will likely stay there once they become pregnant. Now while this isn't the case for everyone, it certainly does happen often. Sometimes it even happens in middle and upper class families when the girl is insecure. When someone gives a girl attention who is not confident in her value and own person, they might do just about anything to keep that attention coming. Unfortunately, just because people have a choice doesn't mean they know how to choose or have the power to make a good decision for themselves. Just presenting the other side. It is important to look at an issue from all angles, not just one's own perspective.
