The Blank Slate Theory
May 24 2006
I've come across a problem.
Hypothetically speaking, if one was born without the use of any of the physical senses, would they still exist? We would say so, but I'm not so sure, especially since it's never happened. In other words, is existence totally contingent on perception, or is there a blank slate that exists before perception occurs? What ramifications would either possibility have logically?

I'd think that they're body would exist to the rest of us, but there'd never be a person (soul, spirit) there.

I agree with josh. We could exist with them and acknowledge their presence, but they would not know how to exist or to acknowledge for that matter! So they would be there but it wouldn't really matter that much...

however, what if someone laid hands on that person, and they were healed, of say, their deaf ears? or blind eyes?
in other words, I think existence isn't just physical, but spiritual, perception. They're both born into us ( right and wrong go along there somewhat )
I guess I believe in the "sixth" sense, of the spiritual nature. Someone born into this world possess that, and I believe that person would exist as a person, because i don't believe physical perception to be the only form of existence. That's a little.. shaky, but well, yeah, I believe that.
