Fun with my Fiance
April 25 2006
So, I am back in Murfreesboro for a couple weeks. Surprise, surprise. Wedding planning is not fun. I promise. Avoid it at all cost. Seriously. Other than finding a career in politics, it will be the one time in your life that everyone tries to influence you in some way. It turns out to be everyone else's wedding, not yours.
But on an up-side, I think Rach and I found an apartment in Murfreesboro that we like. That's fun. We are going to go see it on Wednesday.
Already, I hhave had lots of fun hanging out with Rachael the last few days. As always, I gotta include the photo recap:
We went to the stones river... and threw rocks. We came up with a game... and sadly, I lost horribly.
It is almost like the famouse mirror-shot
Then, we went to the Stardust Drive-In... loads of fun. Although, Silent Hill is not really a good movie. Slow. Bad plot. Bad acting. etc. etc.
Last night, we fixed our own snow cones. mmmmmm...
That's all. Oh, and I hear that the Rutherford County School System finally blocked PhuseBox. That is sad news, but good news all at the same time. Sorry to those that can no longer get their PhuseBox fix at school...

Hey man, good luck on the wedding. Yeah, it sucks that high schoolers will not get to share their time with us during the day...

What I've found planning mine and Matt's wedding is that it is not just mine and Matt's wedding, but a celebration of his family and mine, so it is important to accomodate everyone's wishes. I read something that said that it is more important to have good relationships with your current and new family than it is to have your wedding exactly the way you want it. Reason being, your wedding is one day but your relationships will last the rest of your life. I think that is really good advice.

i suggest letting go of the idea of it being "your" wedding... ;) i decided to look at it this way: "hey look! they're all planning a celebration for me! i'm so lucky i don't have to use any of my own creativity!" (sarcasm detected)... really tho, it'll work out! no worries! besides - i got y'all's invitation yesterday and they look great!! ps - since when did you two decide to live in murfreesboro?? i'm lost

I think it is a good idea to voice your opinions politely and not back down on the important things. Though it may seem like a good idea to accomodate everyone, it is not only impossible for everyone to be happy but is also setting the stage for what the rest of your marriage will be like. If you let everyone know that you will back down on what you think to try and make them happy, you will have to continue to do that on every issue- visits, holidays, child-rearing, you name it. Anyway, that's just what I think. But hey, it'll all be over very soon, and you'll get to spend time with your beautiful wife without anyone around to tell you what to do.
