31% of the female workers claimed to have been harassed at work

7% of the male workers claimed to have been harassed at work

62% of targets took no action

100% of women claimed the harasser was a man

59% of men claimed the harasser was a woman

41% of men claimed the harasser was another man

A woman by the name of Ruth Simpson said that she brought up charges of sexual harassment against her boss because of the way he treated her. Her boss, she claims, would yell at her just to see if he could get a reaction and would continue to yell at her until he got one, then he started to get physical by grabbing her arm and then finally one day he shook her very hard. Her boss said that she was a no good, lazy slob. He does admit to grabbing her arm but said that he apologized immediately.

Now, sexual harassment is not limited to just females. Males are also sexually harassed. The difference is that nobody takes them that seriously. After all, men are supposed to be big, bad and tough. They are supposed to stick up for themselves. Men don’t want to any one to know if they’ve been sexually harassed because in a way its like they are losing a part of their masculinity. Take the case of Tony Hazelton. He was sexually harassed when he went to his teacher for help in one of his classes. The teacher told him that he knew what he had to do if he wanted a good grade. Tony immediately got up and left. When he came and got his grade later it was an f. The school took action and removed the teacher from the campus.

Unfortunately, it is getting a little difficult to tell which cases are true and which cases are for revenge. Many a case has been brought up just to get back at a boyfriend who broke up with them or a teacher who gave them a failing grade. One such case was a student asked a former teacher for a ride home. He agreed and on the way to her house she invited him to come in and share a drink and do other things. He declined and pulled over at a gas station and called her a taxi. Because she was mad about the rejection she cried harassment and charges were brought against him. Another person went to their boss, wearing a wire tap, and started to talk and describe sexual things that she would like to do with him. He agreed and afterwards she brought up charges of sexual harassment and sexual assault. The tape she had been wearing was brought out and listened to. There was only a slight change, all of the provoking things that she had said were erased so it sounded like he had indeed harassed her. Luckily these things were found to be trumped up so the case was thrown out. Unfortunately, it often causes career ruins for the people whom have been charged with it.

Sexual harassment is not just limited to adults. It also happens to children of all ages.

However, some people will get ridiculous. A six year old was suspended from school because he kissed another child on the cheek. They made a bigger deal over that then over little LaShanda. She was continually harassed by a fellow school mate and brought it to the attention of many people all of whom ignored her. “LaShonda reported him to a gym teacher, another classroom teacher, and suffered his advances in the presence of still another teacher. When LaShonda and a group of friends tried to bring her case to the attention of the school principal, she was sent away with instructions that she would be contacted if anyone felt the need to talk with her. Despite follow up calls to school administrators from her mother, nothing was done to protect LaShonda until GF was prosecuted by local authorities for sexual battery, to which he pleaded guilty and of which he was convicted. Meanwhile, LaShonda suffered severe emotional distress, which lead her to threaten suicide and caused a marked fall of in her grades”

This just cries out that our system is screwed up. But anyways, lets get back on track shall we.

There are support groups for people whom have been sexually harassed. SACC ( sexual assault crisis center) is the most popular one. You meet with others who have been sexually assaulted and help to overcome the pain and trauma.
