I NEED YOUR HELP....Aright so here is the deal.  I have a sermon that i have to do tomorrow in class and I need some ideas. I need any ideas yall have or insights you have about the scripture. Please do not feel like your comment wont help I can use anything. THANKS!!!!

So here is the text :    Luke 12:13-21

13 Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me."

14 Jesus replied, "Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?" 15 Then he said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

16 And he told them this parable: "The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17 He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'

18 "Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." '

20 "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'

21 "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."
(from New International Version)

Thanks again. Anything you can think of that would make this text into an interesting sermon. Thanks

aight ~ this is from your friendly neighborhood farm girl ~~ my father has recently gotten in to ,well, er.. habitually building new barns and i began to tese him with this passage ~ here's the thing ~ he didn't tear down the old barns 0- he just built onto the old ones ~ so i like discussiong the difference between storing up b/c of greed and being a good steward of what God has blessed you with and therefore receiving futher blessing ~~~ hope that helps

hey bro not sure if any of this will help but i was looking over some stuff and this is just what came to me. -you could start with matt 6:24 (servering two masters) and talk about how the rich man was trying to keep stuff for himself and and when you do that you try to serve two masters. you also might want to look over matthew 10:37-39 on that as well -then maybe take a look at matthew 6:25-34 (about worry) and say something about how we should not worry about tomorrow since we have today and not try to store up everything...since God will take care of us......good luck hope it goes well!

alright j-mo, here's what i've got: 1- why does he tell the story? b/c some guy is letting money come between him and his brother. it seems fair for the brothers to divide the inheritance... but jesus never gives an answer to that or speaks to the other brother. rather he expounds on what is NOT important in life -- the storing up of material things (ie. being rich toward self). --> this is where jesus warns him of the common misconception into which this brother has apparently bought -- that a man's life consists in how much he has. 2- note in verses 17, 18 how many times the rich man refers to himself: 18 times if we count every i, my, myself, etc, plus the four implied subjects in his imperative sentence at the end, where he has made the decision to take it easy, eat, drink, and be merry. --> all that talk about self must speak something about his extreme selfishness. 3- i think a lot of people miss the point in verse 20. they see it as a punishment that the man will die. i think God is just stating that the guys happens to be dieing tonight, or could be dieing tonight. either way the point is definitely not the death, but the fact that when someone does die who has thought only of himself and stored up only for himeself and for his own comfortability, that he has lost all he's ever worked for. --> it's kind of like he's saying, "he who dies with the most toys... still dies." 4- the explanation for the death in #4 is further proved by the statement in verse 21, that this is how it will be with anyone who works for self and is not rich towards God. if "this is how it will be" were referring back to a verse 20 that was about this guy's death, then we'd all die when we're selfish and greedy. --> rather, luke is saying that anyone who stores for themselves in physical ways will end up with nothing at death. [i don't think it would be too far to suggest that this might possibly lend itself even to saying that what you haven't stored in heaven, then, will not be there, meaning you won't end up there yourself...?] matthew 6:19-21 5- and when i look at this text alongside all the other portions of scripture where jesus speaks about the wealthy, i have to at least ask myself, "is there even a time when being a 'good steward' of my money is wrong, if what i mean by good steward is figuring out a way that i can be taken care of and comfortable for the rest of my life?" i think (but you'd have to check me on this) jesus speaks more about the rich than any other group of people, except maybe the pharisees. there may be something more there than we've seen? might it be wrong to tie up lots of money in insurance policies, insuring whatever physical thing we think we must have to be happy? what about savings? just something to think about....
