my opera

April 07 2006

i had to write an opera (well... part of one ) for my intro to music class. it was rather late at night and well... here is how it turned out...

“The Dove”

Opening Chorus

Happy is she when she is in love

Her heart – it flutters, it flies

Her love is more beautiful that a winged dove

A winged dove in the clear April skies

Recitative (to be sung by Jane)

I see my love as he walks my way

Let us walk together and be happy

            Talk with me

Tell me of your love for me

            Tell me of my beauty

Aria (to be sung by John)

My love for her passes all understanding

But even I know she’s a bit too demanding

            Her beauty is beyond compare

She’s perfect- right down to the shade of her hair

But alas I must do what my heart is commanding

Recitative (to be sung by Jane)

You look troubled dearest one

            What is wrong?

            Do not say those words

            Do not make me cry

            Do not walk away

Aria (to be sung by Jane)

            He walked way from me

All he said was that he had to leave

I want a reason for all my tears

I want an end to all my fears

Because it only hurts when I breathe

Closing Chorus

Unhappy is she when she is no longer in love

Her heart – it breaks, it cries

When the love left, she killed that stupid dove

Because the dove was his love and his love was all lies

** N.B.** This is not a song about me. While I am rather bitter, you don’t have to worry. I haven’t killed any doves…yet.

Kim's opera was RATHER amusing...if you asker nicely, maybe she'll post it. ---and yes the note at the bottom was included in the copy i turned into my teacher.

I went to go see that "classic" opera last night. No offense to Poulenc, but you chose a better topic than he did. Have fun.

Thank you! I used to live in Oklahoma, and I don't think I've ever experienced anything like that! I hope that you and your family are safe as well! Have a great day!
