I'm watching 'Une Femme de ménage'... without subtitles. I recognize almost all of the words they are saying, but don't understand any of it. How familiar...
Due to this lack of translational ability I haven't been paying much attention to the action in the film, however a few things struck a note that I wasn't prepared for.
The sounds of the streets of Paris at night echoing in the main character's open window, the hissing of the train pulling up in the metro... i didn't realize how elevated my state of awareness must have been when I was there - that these sounds seem more familiar to me than the sounds outside my own apartment.
Très étrange.
