Chris, there aren't levels of Christianity. It's like being pregnant. Either you are or you aren't. None of us live "a perfect Christian life" but we're not supposed to excuse our sin and decide it's okay. I think God calls that being lukewarm. Sorry to rain on your parade but I care too much to read this post and think it's cute. You're cute! But this just... isn't.

does all of that really make you happy? no one expects perfection, but one's life is supposed to glorify God, not repel nonbelievers or tell them that sin is ok. just some thoughts. not trying to come down too hard on you, and i know you probably don't care what i have to say, but you can have fun without being a jerk, or doing things that are illegal, or hurting others/yourself....

Here's a different perspective. First, you should decide if you want to be a Christian or anything else. At the point in which you decide, THEN I think you should pursue that path ardently. However, if you have not decided that is the way for you yet, here is what I would say. If what you are doing with your life is fulfilling, you are happy, you are getting along with those around you (relatively speaking since there will always be enemies), you feel you are growing as a person, and you are happy with that, what else do you need? Honestly, if your life is great and you are growing as a person without Christianity, what is the appeal of the religion? I know, I know, I'll probably get killed for this comment, but everyone has to come to their own realizations about their life and their beliefs. I think it is important not to just say that you may not be living the perfect christian life, but to really examine if that is something you want to do at all. If it is, go for it, if not, don't and don't feel bad about your actions not measuring up to an impossible Christian standard.

That's right, Chris. It really is all about what makes you happy during this life. If it feels good... Do it! Go ahead! Walk your salvation as close to the line as you can get it and still comfortably call yourself a Christian! Develop the god within yourself and don't worry about anything like ETERNITY! The previous post perfectly sums up what satan does. He makes living for God look not only "lame" but "an impossible Christian standard." He makes it seem like a waste of time. Life lived with God is worth the effort. When life punches you in the face (and it will) having Jesus as your best friend is a GOOD place to be. Eternity in Hell is a pretty good deterrent to me too. Remember this too... you don't always get another day to get right with God. Sometimes people are here one minute and standing before God the next wondering what happened. Karissa's advice is fabulous if you don't believe a relationship with the Creator of the Universe if important. But you already know all this don't you.

To clarify for you, Chris, I didn't say anything about walking your salvation as close to the line as you can get and still call yourself a Christian, nor did I say anything about developing the god within yourself. I actually said to know what you believe and follow after that- much different than the two above assumptions made about what I said. I don't think you should call yourself anything until you know what you believe and what you think. And I think figuring that out is, or should be, a lot more complicated and require a lot more contemplation than a simple question of heaven or hell. Sad that is would come down to that for most people. You should believe something because it is true, not out of fear...or at least that is what I think. Oh, and on something Jeana said: Satan doesn't have to make it look like anything. You can look at it for yourself objectively and see that the Christian standard of perfection is, in fact, impossible. Even if, through Christ's death you are made perfect in God's eyes, you still sin, according to biblical definition. Now, if the goal of perfection is one you wish you aim for, do it, and I am not being sarcastic at all. I was just trying to get you to challenge yourself to define what you believe and follow that. That way you will either not condemn yourself for not living a "perfect Christian life" because you aren't a Christian, or you would be very concerned about living a Christian life and posts like this wouldn't come about.

I think a fear of Hell is a perfectly good reason to choose Jesus. Eternity is going to be a really, really long time. Maybe there is no such place as Hell. Maybe it's fine to live as if there is no risk of winding up there - hoping that it's not real. But... eternity is a really, really long time to be wrong.
Heaven, on the other hand, sounds like a wonderful place to plan to spend eternity.

Actually, neither sound very appealing...neither does eternity. What is more important is not whether either is a good option or not but whether it exists. That's up to each person to figure out for themselves...that type of self development of beliefs was exactly the point of my comments. :)
