No Adult Supervision
October 08 2006
So, Shauna & I went to Dollywood yesterday to represent the OHS KEY Club. Blackman allowed us to ride the there & back w/ them, but basically after we got there we were on our own. It was actually a lot more fun than we thought it would be except for the hour that we had to go to the KEY Club rally, but it was ok. One ride broke down while we were in line for it, and, of course, while we were on it. We were kind of mad. Some rides Sheauna & I didn't even have to wait in line for cause there were only 2 of us, and they could fit only two more ppl in the ride, and all the other groups in line had more than 2 ppl. Well, g2g, but I'm sure ya'll can just imagine Shauna & me 4 hrs away from home w/ NO adult supervision.
God Bless!

FRIGGIN OWNED!!!
October 07 2006
51 to 33
A team who's averaging an allowed 6.8 points per game, and only 34 ALL SEASON.
And we scored 51 points in one game. The only other team to score fifty points in Georgia is FLorida back in 1995, when Steve Spurrier's run gun n fun offense was at its height.
Yeah.
FRIGGIN OWNED!!!!!
The Tigers advanced to the ALCS, where they will play the Athletics.
October 07 2006
DETROIT (AP) -- As a reborn baseball town erupted in splashes of orange and blue around them, the Detroit Tigers danced in the infield, kicking up dirt like kids on a sandlot.
They grabbed Jim Leyland, hoisted him on their shoulders and carried him off the field as 43,000 delirious fans screamed as one. The manager's ride was a short one, but the party was just getting started.
Game 4 Breakdown
Unsung Hero
Magglio Ordonez. He got the Tigers' offense rolling and scored the first three times he came to the plate. He homered in the second, reached on an error in the third and singled in the fifth. He finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Goat
The Yankees' offense. After being touted as one of the greatest lineups of all time, they weren't even good. Only four players managed six hits, and the team batted .172 (11-for-64) with just four extra-base knocks and three runs in two games in Detroit exiting the playoffs with a whimper.
Turning Point
The bottom of the second inning. Ordonez led off with a solo home run, and three batters later, Craig Monroe hit a two-run shot to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. They never looked back after that.
On Deck
The Tigers advance to the American League Championship Series for the first time since 1987, when they lost to the eventual World Series champion Twins in five games. Game 1 of the ALC is Tuesday in Oakland. Barry Zito will start for the A's. Detroit will counter with either Nate Robertson or Justin Verlander.
The Tigers are still on the prowl. The mighty New York Yankees struck out.
Three years after losing 119 games, they moved back among baseball's biggest cats with an 8-3 victory Saturday in Game 4 over the Yankees, whose $200 million payroll couldn't help them against Detroit's pitching.
"This is the best of the best, to beat the best team in baseball," said Craig Monroe, who hit a two-run homer. "This is baseball for us, right here in Detroit."
Once a punchline, the Tigers punched out the big, bad Yankees.
"You kind of get tired of giving the other team credit," third baseman Alex Rodriguez said after another terrible October. "At some point you've got to look in the mirror and say, 'I sucked."
Jeremy Bonderman was perfect for five innings and sublime until the ninth as the Tigers moved into the AL championship series against Oakland by eliminating A-Rod, Derek Jeter and the other high-priced, high-profile Yankees.
Given little chance before the series started or when they were down 0-1, Detroit won three straight to stun the AL East champions, who could be facing a colder New York baseball winter than normal.
It all happened faster than Leyland, the Tigers' no-nonsense skipper, or anyone could have ever imagined. The feisty 61-year-old ended a six-year retirement and took over a team that had averaged 100 losses since 2001 and one he figured would fight with Kansas City to stay out of last place in the AL Central.
Instead, Leyland has taken the Tigers near the top.
"I didn't think we'd be here this year," he said. "All we wanted to do was look at our pieces and parts we had and see if we needed to change any. I thought it would be a year or so before we got into a situation like this. This came a little bit quicker than I expected."
During spring training in Florida, Leyland made his players study the Yankees. He wanted them to emulate their Bronx-born bravado, right down to the way they run onto the field.
"I said, 'That's the level we want to get to, and we've got to get that quiet swagger and confidence that the Yankees got," he said. "I used them as an example. It's kind of ironic that we got to play them, and fortunately beat them."
The Tigers' chances seemed slim just a few days ago when they were swept at home on the final weekend of the regular season by the last-place Royals, who denied them a division title. Detroit had to settle for a wild-card berth and a first-round matchup with the Yankees.
It seemed lopsided. It sure was. The Yankees didn't have a chance.
These man-eating Tigers simply devoured New York, outplaying the Yanks in every phase to advance to their first AL championship series since 1987. On Tuesday, the Tigers will play at Oakland in Game 1 of the AL championship series, the first postseason meeting between the clubs since 1972.
"Nobody gave us a shot in this series," Bonderman said. "That motivated us."
The Yankees never found any spark, and for the second straight year the star-studded squad is going home after a first-round exit.
"I'm stunned," New York general manager Brian Cashman said. "This team fooled me to some degree. Detroit was on top of their game and we weren't, and that combination was lethal for us. I'm disappointed where we're at now."
Losing stung and now the Yankees will have to face owner George Steinbrenner's wrath. He may have big changes in store for his underachieving ballclub, which hasn't won a World Series since 2000.
One of the Yankees' offseason moves could be trading Rodriguez, who capped another forgettable October by going 1-for-14 (.071) and going without an RBI for the second straight postseason.
"I have no one to blame but myself," he said. "I know I certainly have to do well for this team to win."
Bonderman allowed just five singles, walking off to a thunderous ovation with an 8-1 lead.
After the final out, the Tigers mobbed each other before turning their affection to Leyland, who began his baseball career in 1963 as a catcher in Detroit's system.
"That was awesome," third baseman Brandon Inge said. "That's so deserving. I don't know how many people have been carried off the field on their shoulders, but I tell you what, if there were a select few that deserve it, he is definitely one of them."
Moments later, the Tigers emerged from their clubhouse armed with champagne bottles and they uncorked them during a victory lap around Comerica Park, slapping hands and spraying fans who danced to Kiss' "Rock and Roll All Night."
"These fans have been here for some of the worst things," Monroe said. "We wanted them to be able to have a party tonight."
Magglio Ordonez and Monroe each homered off Jaret Wright as the Tigers built an 8-0 after six innings and coasted through the final three.
Blanked in Game 3 by Kenny Rogers, the Yankees and their reputed Murderer's Row didn't score off Bonderman until the seventh, snapping a scoreless streak of a season-high 20 2-3 innings. This from a team which scored 930 runs during the regular season but managed just 14 in the series, getting drubbed 14-3 in the final two games.
"You've got to play," Jeter said. "You don't win games on paper. You've got to come out here and perform. And they pretty much overmatched us in this series."
Feeding off a frenzied crowd, Bonderman retired the first 15 Yankees in order before Robinson Cano dribbled a single through the middle for New York's first hit. Bonderman, though, wasn't about to let a big lead slip away like he did last Sunday when the Royals overcame a 6-0 deficit to beat the Tigers, a loss that cost Detroit an AL Central title and home-field advantage in Round 1.
As it turns out, the Tigers and their $80-plus million payroll didn't need any such luxuries.
"I just wanted to go out and attack them," Bonderman said. "I just wanted to leave everything I had on the field, and I think I did. This is the greatest thrill in the world. You can't ask for anything better.
Vols shred vaunted Georgia D for 51 points in comeback win
October 07 2006
game's final eight minutes. He increased the Vols' lead from five to 19
and put a close game out of reach.
Gameball goes to... Foster and
Erik Ainge. Foster finished the day with three TDs and 55 rushing
yards. Ainge orchestrated the Vols' comeback, tallying two TDs and 269
yards.
Stat of the game... 4: Turnovers tell the story; Georgia lost
possession four times, the Vols did not. The Dawgs controlled the ball
for the first half, but UT's defenders wore down Georgia's QBs.
ATHENS,
Ga. (AP) -- Erik Ainge and Tennessee shredded the nation's stingiest
defense, becoming just the second team to put up 50 points on Georgia
between the hedges.
Ainge threw for two touchdowns and ran for
another to lead the No. 13 Volunteers to a wild 51-33 victory Saturday
night that defied the norm in the defensive-minded Southeastern
Conference, which had three Top 10 teams lose on the day.
Arian
Foster scored three times for Tennessee (5-1, 1-1 SEC), all on 1-yard
runs. The Vols piled up 383 yards and 27 first downs, going a perfect
6-for-6 scoring TDs each time they got inside Georgia's 20.
The
10th-ranked Bulldogs (5-1, 2-1 SEC) went down to the same fate as No. 2
Auburn, knocked off by Arkansas 27-10, and No. 9 LSU, which lost 23-10
to fifth-ranked Florida. The Bulldogs hardly looked like a team that
was allowing a nation's-best 6.8 points per game -- only 34 all season.
Tennessee
scored more points than that in the second half, finishing with the
second-most ever by a visiting team at Sanford Stadium. Only Florida,
which won 52-17 in 1995 during the height of Steve Spurrier's Fun-n-Gun
offense, scored more points on the Bulldogs in Athens.
The Vols
couldn't afford another conference loss after falling to Florida in
their SEC opener three weeks ago. They sure looked in trouble when
Georgia raced to a 24-7 lead with less than five minutes to go in the
first half.
But Ainge put Tennessee ahead to stay in the opening
minute of the fourth quarter, hooking up with Robert Meachem on a
15-yard touchdown pass that made it 31-27. After Georgia was stuffed on
its next possession, freshman Antonio Wardlow blocked Gordon
Ely-Kelso's punt and fell on the ball in the corner of the end zone for
another TD.
The crowd of more than 92,000 was still recovering
from that blow when Thomas Brown found a seam up the middle and broke
off a 99-yard return for a touchdown -- Georgia's second return for a
TD in the game.
Mikey Henderson had an 86-yard punt return early in the second quarter, his second touchdown on a punt return this season.
It
wasn't nearly enough to save Georgia. Foster scored on a 1-yard run
with 8:15 remaining and did it again with 2:54 left to make it half a
hundred.
Ainge finished 25-of-38 for 268 yards. Meachem had seven receptions for 98 yards, while Bret Smith also caught seven for 94.
Joe
Tereshinski started at quarterback for Georgia, his first appearance
since going down with a severely sprained ankle in the season opener.
While
Tereshinski gave a bit of life to an offense that struggled in his
absence with freshmen Matthew Stafford and Joe Cox flip-flopping the
quarterback duties, it wasn't nearly enough to overcome the Tennessee
onslaught.
Tereshinski helped the Vols by throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble in the second half.
Georgia
was cruising when Brannan Southerland scored the second of his two
touchdowns with a leaping catch of an 8-yard pass from Joe T.
But
Ainge responded by directing an 11-play, 65-yard that ended with Foster
diving over from the 1 with just 50 seconds left in the half to make it
24-14.
Tennessee carried that momentum into the third quarter.
On Georgia's second offensive play, Antwan Stewart picked off a tipped
pass at the Bulldogs 19 to set up a 1-yard touchdown dive by Ainge.
After
the teams traded field goals, Georgia was still clinging to a 27-24
lead going to the final period. But the Bulldogs simply couldn't stop
Tennessee, even after Brown seemed to stem the tide with his kickoff
return.

So today I'm going to complain about people who try to be what they're not. This group of people includes not only the pretenders, but also the self-important and those who actually believe they are something they are not.
One particular young man I know desires to be at the existentially angsty Perry Model stage #5, so purposefully tries to depress himselfby reading such existentialist authors as Sartre and Camus. I reccomended he read Nietzche so that he may at least read someone I consider intelligent, but he shot that down. Nietzche may make him think, after all. So now those around this particular young man have to deal with his general pissiness. I have many other things to say about this particular case, but I don't have the time. Rather, I'd just like not to dwell on it for too long.
Next, we have the self-important. Take, for example, a girl I know who, because her family couldn't afford the art school she had desired to attend, comes to Tech. I can sympathize with her not being able to attend the school of her choice because of financial concerns; my family deals with this as well. Her problem, however, is that she looks with derision on those of us who attend Tech because, I don't know, we want to come here. After all, it's obviously such a terrible school if it's affordable. So every day, and I mean every single day, her remarks and condescending looks burn into my skull in a concentration of total discomfort on my part. Luckily for me, though, she seems to be getting along well with the guy from the first case.
So yeah, I guess there's something else I'm complaining about. It's sort of a guilty pleasure: I feel guilty, but it feels great at the same time.
At the Cross
October 07 2006
have you every had a time when you were really depressed and you didn't know why but then you just shut up and lay around in quiet then God just shows you some cool things. Well!!! God showed me some cool stuff! Just whenever you really need that boost God likes I am here!! I turned on the iPod and i was listening to the new Hillsong CD called "Mighty to Save" and i was listening to the 2nd song and the lyrics really got me that we have freedom in Christ and we should dance in that that we have the freedom in the one who lives!! Here are some of the words:
The world turns in all of its ways
But I'm soul set on a holy name
And when all earth is said and done
Still I will praise Him
There's no end to the love that He gives
And now broken dreams have life again
In the hope of the risen King
So let us praise Him
it really just says that when all else fails and when the world falls away that He will still be there and that i will praise Him!! Then i went to a song entitled "At the Cross" and God showed me more! the song pretty much means to me when I screw up in unmeasureable ways God there and says i know you did that and i am sad but I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!
Oh Lord You’ve searched me,
You know my way;
Even when I fail You,
I know You love me.
The chorus part just talks about the cross and that the stuff I do Christ knows and that He paid for those on the Cross so I should praise Him!
At the cross I bow my knee,
Where Your blood was shed for me,
There’s no greater love than this.
You have overcome the grave,
Your glory fills the highest place,
What can separate me now?
I just wanted to share what I have been going through tonight just to get it out! To the person out there who is dealing with stuff here is something that no matter how bad you screw up THAT GOD LOVES YOU and that he paided for that so that gives you a even reason to praise his name!!
And when the earth fades,
Falls from my eyes,
And You stand before me,
I know You love me;
I know You love me.

I don't claim to be the most logical person in the world, but it seems to me that if you tell your students that you're not going to cover a chapter, you shouldn't tell them four days before the midterm that they need to know several chunks of material from said chapter. Not only does it not make sense to tell your students two different things, it's extremely inconsiderate to those students who happen to plan and organize their study time based on what you've already said.
Education classes make me stabby.
Birthday
October 07 2006
I spent more money than was spent on me.
I gave more than was given me. In fact, I didn't have any presents. Destruction of tradition.
Instead of loafing the entire day, I went to class (on 4 hours of sleep), ate some chinese food with some acquaintances, went to philosophy club's first meeting (discussing modus ponens! :-O ), then went to work for 4½ hours.
I got a free meal at KFC and Subway, went home.
Instead of celebrating, I slept.
The entire day I had reggae music on my mind, or at least when I was bored.
It was a good day.

College visit report card time!
This week I've visited UGA, OSU, and UTK. All three of them are on my finalized list of schools I'm applying to (along with Northwestern, UK, USC, and Indiana), and I was interested to see how Ohio and Georgia stacked up against UT.
Here are the results:
University of Georgia, Bulldogs: B-
UGA is hard to describe. It's simultaneously better and worse than I thought it would be. The campus and atmosphere are pretty nice, but the school is obviously controlled by football. Their speakers were surprisingly rude and condescending, as well. On the other hand, their honors program is very nice – if I can even get into it, which is no guarantee. I found out almost nothing about their linguistics department, except that only 12 people graduated with a degree in linguistics last year…which is more than some schools, but still a pretty low number.
The Ohio State University, Buckeyes: A
I must say, I was extremely impressed with OSU. I was apprehensive going in, but immediately I liked Columbus, liked the campus (it's already in the throes of autumn), and liked the general atmosphere. Opposed to Georgia, which gives no personalized attention to anyone, Ohio gave me an individual tour of the honors dorms, an individual meeting with an admissions rep, an individual course scheduling meeting, and – very amazingly – lunch with the head of the linguistics department, who also gave me an extensive tour of her department, which is one of the top in the country. It was scary to have to be really alert and asking intelligent questions all day, but I could tell that Ohio really cares about its applicants. This is even more impressive considering it passed Texas and Michigan as the biggest university in the nation, with some hundred billion students. That's what it seemed like; a more accurate number is probably 39,000.
University of Tennseesse Knoxville, Volunteers: B-
What is there to say about UT? It's UT. There's nothing wrong with it as a school, and it has a decent honors program, a good English department, and an okay interdisciplinary degree in linguistics. But nothing about it stands out to me, and it doesn't feel like it could be home. But if I have to stay instate, for some reason, it will be a good option.
Next weekend I visit Kentucky, and one day this month I'm missing school to visit South Carolina. I haven't scheduled a visit to Indiana yet. I don't really know much about the school except it has a really top linguistics program.
Aaaand other than all that I have been hanging out with some pretty cool people this week (Jesse, Carlton, Lindsay) and doing random things. We've been getting really creative in our attempts to try new ways of having fun. Hopefully we don't get in trouble for our most recent project….ahhh hmm. But tonight is Sophie/Rachel/Heather's 53rd birthday party and I'm looking forward to some hardcore fun, ha. And tomorrow I get to do all the homework I've put off for seven days in the span of about three hours.
I love you.

Need Opinions despritely
October 07 2006
So I have recently found out that I am yet another minority.....my mom knows now that she is 50% Puerto Rican, making me 25%....I have a way to get all the necessary documents to be classified as Puerto Rican but my mom doesn't want to do it because she doesn't want to meet her real parents.....should I get those papers though I would get a full scholarship to any college in the nation that I wanted.....my loans would be paid back, and I would get enough extra to pay for anything else......my problem is the fact that my mom doesn't want to meet her parents.....but the way I see it I would like to know my heratige as well as know if there are any prominant health problems on my mom's side of the family so I can kinda know what to expect in the future......idk I guess its just a matter of knowing but not really knowing.....I have always taken pride in my ethenicity, and I would love to know the full extent of my heratige......idk I guess it feels like I might actually be able to find another grandfather or something too.....I mean alot of people grew up knowing there grandparents but since I found out my mom was addopted I couldn't look at my mom's adopted parents as my real grandparents.....don't take my wrong I loved them none the less....in fact I wish every day that my mom's mom, or nanny as we called her, could still be alive today and see me in college, my nephew, and all that stuff that has happened in the past 5 and a half years......but anyways what do you think I should do.....should I keep pressing the issue with my mom?...or should I just drop it and let things be as they are? I would really like some opinions on this if you would please......
o yea I also found out I am 1/8th black

Everything is coming together for the Judgement! I've added a little to my line with the advisory from Amy, and ofcourse some acting skills from Marcus and it looks great. Ecspecially now that i understand the scene better. I hadn't quite understanded my role until last night other than i was 'The Demon' in that scene. I also had no idea of my "coordinates" at the begining of the scene. But it was all understood last night. It lloks so awesome!
Tonight is the youth cookout... my mom would like me to try to find a ride to the lewis's house for me and emily before tonight because she just has so much to get done. After we get all work done i want to go shopping.... not sure why. I just want to i guess and you might say that i need to get an outfit or 2 because i have practicly no clothes for the 'cold weather'.
well i will see ya later!

My Dream
October 06 2006
I want you to hold me when you are here and think of me when you're not. I need you to love me and never no one else. Just lay next to me with nothing else in mind. Give me one sweet warm kiss and no more after. Stay until I fall asleep and be there when I awake. This is my dream for when I think of you.

Argument of the day: We know that it was one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles who assualted Shredder, because Shredder was karate-chopped by a reptile, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Michelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello, and Raphael - are the only reptiles who practice karate. Shredder's assailant could not have been Michelangelo, Leonardo, or Donatello because they were all in a newsmaker interview with April O'Neill at the time of the assault. Therefore Raphael must have assaulted Shredder. (Logic and Critical Thinking text book)

A favorite toy.
A stuffed bear name "Teddy".
It’s missing left eye.
The twelth time mom sewed his tail back on.
A child’s love.
A shove on the playground.
Poking in class.
Getting framed for his mischief.
A stolen snack at lunch.
That impish little grin.
A young boy’s love.
A touch of the hand.
Sweet hidden glances.
Kisses goodbye.
Caution thrown to the wind.
A heart handed away.
It’s puppy love.
Purring incessantly.
Jumping up to greet you.
A wake-up pounce at four a.m.
Tails swished in your face.
A cold, wet kiss.
A kitten’s love.
A few dollars to go to the movies.
An embarrassing public kiss.
The push to do better.
Yelling that never seems to end.
"Unfair" rules.
A parent’s love.
Forgiveness beyond comprehension.
A hand to always help you up.
A peace to pass all understanding.
Loyalty no matter what.
A promised forever.

Survey Says .....
October 05 2006
I'll pay the rent .... and so, on Thursday at about 11am, I receive an email advising that the company agrees to pay for the alarm upgrade.
Now before anybody jumps up and down for joy ... after I started pushing this issue hard (to get closure) ... there was silence from the company (presumably they were considering the matter). Then at 930am Thursday I get a visitor in my office needing some critical help. I stop everything ... listen to the issue ...do my research ... respond via email ... hear a sigh of relieve from the receiver of my email.
So, what's the point of the preceding paragraph? Well, the person who needed the help was one of the two key people that were involved in making a decision on the alarm system ... after I helped them ... then my answer came. Connection or coincidence ??? One may never know .... but the result was good.
At 2pm I saw a new draft of the lease. Looks good. I initial a couple of pages ... and then am told to be at the ground floor of the building (I'm on floor 29, out of 39) at 2pm on Friday for final execution of the lease agreement.
I explain the situation to Decy ... she ponders the situation ... responds "ok, now its my turn" .... starting today (Friday) she begins executing the move-in sequence. There's a gazillion things to do ... and we cannot physically move in until the security guards are in place and the minimum life support-type issues are resolved. We both agree that we may or may not make it into the house next weekend (14th-15th) ... but what is important is that WHEN we do move in ... we have a place to sleep, a way to cook/eat, a way to bath, a way to do laundry, and a place to store our valuables .....
Let the games begin .... albiet slowly ... this is Ramadhan and we are fast approaching the long Idul Fitri weekend (21st-24th) when nothing will be accomplished. FYI, Idul Fitri is the end of the fasting month .... lots of celebration by a gazillion tired and hungry folks.
ciao ciao ...

so. i think that God is finally revealing to me what He's been trying to get across to me all this time that i've been struggling with stuff. He wants me to "do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than" myself...(Phillipians 2:3). He wants me to realize that even though, yes, i do a lot of good things, and yes i have high morals, that i am just the same as the adulterous murderer in His eyes, and that it's only by His grace that i can be forgiven and made into anything else. I don't do anything good out of my own heart --- it is HIM working THROUGH ME! i realized that i am weak, and i will fall from time to time, but that should not discourage me, because it's not like i could do anything right anyways. i have had such an issue with pride, and looking down my nose at people just because they aren't Christians, which is exactly the opposite of what i'm supposed to do. I CAN'T DO IT ON MY OWN! i was never meant to. the only way anything can be accomplished is when we abide in Christ, and let the Spirit work through us. God has called those of us who are in Christ to "preserve and flavor" our communities and our schools! But this is not a passive thing. "Flavoring" requires action. We are supposed to be different! And not by wearing skirts and no makeup, and not by never ever being around anything/anyone secular. Our world is so dark, that when we are walking with Christ, the light that comes through us will be in stark contrast to the surrounding darkness. I pray that my light would "shine before men", they may see [my] good deeds and praise [my] Father in Heaven". much love to you all ---Cari
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." ---Matthew 5:13-16

Lucid Dreaming.
Although science has proven that we all dream every night, many people
often remember no dreams at all, and even when they do, it is almost
exclusively upon awakening, after the fact.
Lucid dreams are uniquely different. One realizes that one is dreaming
while the dream is still happening. The scene often suddenly expands in
richness and color as the dreamer becomes aware that the world being
experienced, although appearing very believable, is actually a dream
and that his or her physical body is elsewhere safe asleep in bed. With
this new understanding, the lucid dreamer is free to explore remarkable
worlds limited only by imagination, and now not just as an actor, but
also to some degree as a producer and director.
Lucid dreaming was brought into the academic and public spotlights
around the world once it's scientific validity was separately proven by
researchers at Stanford University, California (where it has also been
proven to be a learnable skill), and at Liverpool University, England.
Proof was achieved by performing, during REM sleep, a series of extreme
left-right eye signals which were agreed upon prior to sleep. Though
most of the body's muscles are de-activated during REM sleep, the eye
muscles are not, and repeated experiments at Stanford, the Sacr-Coeur
Hospital Dream and Nightmare Laboratory and elsewhere have proven that
the eyes (and to some extent other physiological responses) can be
brought under conscious control by a dreamer who realizes that she or
he is dreaming.

Q:Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting weak? A:To make the bloody things work until they are very dead
Q:Why
do banks charge a fee on "insufficient funds" when they know there is
not enough? A: Because our economy sucks and we need some extra cash.
And because digging between the cushoins for change just isn't cutting
it.
Q:Why
does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but
check when you say the paint is wet? A:They don't really beleive you,
they go home and check online. When it's something tangible thay can
just reach out and check.
Q:Why doesn't glue stick to the bottle? Because the bottle is glue-retardant
Q:Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection? A: Irony, lots of irony.
Q:Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard? A: He shaves it, duh!
Q:Why
does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a
revolver at him? A: Because it HURTS when you get clunked in the
sternum with a revolver
A:If
people evolved from apes, why are there still apes? A: They're not
really apes, they're just really stupid (and hairy) people.
Q:Why
is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are
always white? A: Because we can't dye bubbles with our advanced
technology.
Q:Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale? A: On the days the store is closed.
Q:Why
do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that
something new to eat will have materialized? A: Because we're hungry,
gosh darn it!!
Q:Why
do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum
cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to
give the vacuum one more chance? A: To make sure the string is clean.
Q:Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end on your first try? A: Because you're a weakling
Q:How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures? A:They crawled in there to die.
Q:When
we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping
cart then apologizes for doing so, why do we say, "It's all right?"
Well, it isn't all right, so why don't we say, "That hurt, you stupid
idiot?" A: Because we have manners and they don't.
Q:Why
is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off
the table you always manage to knock something else over? A: It's
Karma for knocking the first thing over in the first place.
Q:In
winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when
we complained about the heat? A: Because it's COLD in the winter, we'd
freeze if we didn't.
Q:How come you never hear father-in-law jokes? A: Because most father-in-laws are fairly decent guys.
And my FAVORITE......
The statistics on
sanity are that one out of every four persons is suffering from some
sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends -- if they're
okay, then it's you.

Also...

What happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object - everything and nothing.
Remember the old vaudville act where the villian says "pay the rent" ... the maiden say "I can't pay the rent" ... the villan says "you must pay the rent" .. the maiden says "but I can't pay the rent" ... then a handsome guy says "I'll pay the rent" .. and the maiden says "my hero !!" ???? Remember that ??? ... that's kinda of what's going on now ...
After settling 4 of the 5 outstanding issues on the Palm house ... the only remaining issue is an alarm system. Company says ... "you must have an alarm" ... owner says "it has an alarm" ... company says "you must upgrade the alarm to my standards" ... owner says "then you pay for it" ... company says "owner must pay for it as part of the lease" ... owner says "but my friends tell me company has always paid for the alarm system .. therefore, I refuse to pay" ... company says "you must have an upgraded alarm" .... and I just to say ... " I'll pay for the blasted alarm ... I just want a house !!! "
So here we sit ... immovable object .. irresistible force ... the company is setting leasing standards under the new housing program that (a) is not being communicated in advance, and (b) owners cannot and will not meet after the deal has already been negotiated. And, even if the standards were known in advance ... the allowance and costs are such that you would end up living in a bungalow with gold plated security and electricity.
So, where do we sit? Not sure if we are at a temporary red signal light ... or a dead end. If a dead end ... we (and every other expat coming in) will be faced with this same issue over and over and over again. That's dumb.
Hopefully, we are at a temporary red signal light ... as the company decides to either "pay up" or "shut up" ... if the security requirements are that critical, then the company has two choices (a) either pay directly for the installation, or (b) increase the rental rate to include the security system.
This is a bit of a dilemma for the company ... as it really wants to get out of the housing business ... and if it provides the security system ... then it will be responsible for paying and maintaining it. On the other hand, if you hand that responsibility to the owner ... there is no assurance it will be installed and maintained according to standards; thus, compromising security.
Based on the fact that the company is directly contracting for the security guards to guarantee appropriate 24/7 coverage ... I bet they elect to take responsibility for the security system ... rather than trusting the owner ... but that is just a bet ... in the meantime ....
... waiting ... waiting .... waiting .... waiting ....

I know I get lonely, and I talk about how I wish I was in a relationship, but as I look at who I am, I thank God that I was kept from being in relationships with guys I've liked thus far. Ever since I was young, I had this image in my head of who I wanted to be, and I know that being in a relationship would have hindered who I have become and who I am becomming. There are some things that God needs for me to do before he leads me to my husband, and even though I have a hard time with that, I accept it. So many people find their identity in a relationship, and it's really sad. I'm not even talking about high schoolers, I've seen it happened among my college peers, too. God has so many great things in store for us, but if we constantly divert our eyes and focus on something that He doesn't want, then we completely miss out on His goodness.

Two Steps Forward ... One Step Back
October 03 2006
Notary - Done. Found one close to the office. Decy came in town, joined me after work. We relaxed a bit then did the paperwork. Home at 730pm .... total time 3.5 hours ... but the sequence and content was much better. Thanks luv !!!
Palm House - previous note I said "its not in my control" ... but funny thing about Indonesia ... conflict and conflict resolution is a challenge. So .... we have inspectors saying ... do A, B, C, D, .... the owner agrees to do all but C (for example) ..... now its time to finalize the lease and sign it ... I look at it and ask "so what about C ... its on the list by the owner says no?" I get blank stares.
So, its back into my control. Time to utilize my skills ... phone call here ... phone call there ... couple of clarifications and confirmations .... bingo .... have everything lined up ... I think ... all going well (ha ha ha) we should execute the lease on Friday the 6th ... and a target move-in date next weekend (~13th) ... assuming security guards are in place and we get get the beds moved in during the week (remember this is Ramadhan month).
So what were the key issues and how were they resolved?
1. Company insisted on a backup generator of 45 KVA (cost ~$5k). Owner said no, but he has a small, older one. Solution - Company to provide
2. Company insisted on an electrical stabilizer system for the house (cost ~$7k). Owner says not needed and that Company has provided it for other expat houses. Solution - Company to provide
3. Company suggested 100 liter hot water tank (vs 80) in addition to 250 liter solar tank that is already in place. Owner says not necessary. Solution - I agree to 80 liter and if not sufficient for the house will revert/discuss with Owner at a later time.
4. Company suggested 400 W water pump (vs 250). Owner says not necessary as water pressure is already more than sufficient. Solution - I agree to 250 as a test. If it is not sufficient Owner will upgrade.
5. Company insists on upgrade to the house alarm system, including 3 new detectors. [I know I can't fight security on this one]. Owner says that system is not his and that previous renters put it in. Solution - get agreement that one of the detectors is not necessary if the door has a lock ... as for the rest of the upgrades on the system ... its in the lease ... and I push back on the Owner request that he address/pay ... based on my working all 4 items above on his behalf. I think I will win this one ... and I won't let it stop the lease ... its just a matter of "who pays" and we are probably talking about $500 for the upgrade.
This whole leasing process is a bit ingenious to the owner and renter. We are told to find a home within budget, negotiate price, furniture, upgrades. Then we turn it over to the company for inspections ... with each inspection there is a list of (say) 10-15 "to do items" ... and as you can see some are quite costly ... its ok for small items ... but I believe it is unrealistic to expect owners to have security systems, electrical stabilizers, and back up generators (at the cost of >$10k) just to meet the company standards ....
But, this leasing process is a new process (we are the 2nd family to do this) ... there is a learning curve and as the results come in, I expect the company to adjust the program ...
enough for now ... ciao ciao
EVANESCENCE!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got their new CD. It's not as good as "Fallen", but I like it.
My head hurts again. Dang it all! I think there's something in the house I'm babysitting at that I'm allergic to, probably mold of mildew. Wouldn't surprise me a bit.
That house is so BIG. It has soooo many rooms, I keep expecting to open one and find myself in Narnia. It's insane!

It's all about the Today's and Tommorrow's
October 03 2006
Today is what is happening to you right now, the decisions you make,
what you choose to wear, how you choose to act
Today is knowing that your living with no regrets
Today is living like no one is watching but GOD
Today is loving people with all your heart
Today is calling up an old friend or a new friend just because you can
Today is taking every moment given to you and making it complete
Today is all about you and how you want to be remembered
Tommorrow is thinking about what you did today
Tommorrow is knowing that you have no regrets
Tommorrow is marvelling in the fact that yesterday was a great day
Tommorrow is realizing that the life you have is so great that you can
hardly stand it
Tommorrow is being the best person you can be and knowing that
everyone that matters knows who you are and what kind
of person you will become
Tommorrow is living with the mistakes you made yesterday and
knowing that you won't make them again
Tommorrow is embracing all the todays yet to come
BUT MORE THAN EVERYTHING ALL THE TODAY'S AND TOMMORROW'S WON'T MEAN ANYTHING UNLESS YOU CHOOSE TO MAKE THEM THE BEST!!!!!!
