Jaded by the Invisible Hoop-La

I am not insensitive to the plight of the Ugandan children, it is a horrible travesty that they must walk for miles to avoid abduction into a para-military group. However, I am tired of hearing everyone demand that the United States government step in and end this "war." Uni-lateral actions on our part is the reason that the majority of the world hates us. That is why terrorists attack us, why the new Prime Minister of Iran says he will not enter into diplomatic discussions with us untill we stop acting like we own everything. Osama Bin Laden's latest message to the Ji-had warriors pleaded with them to go fight in the Sudan. The terrorist battle is moving to Africa, and an armed U.S. presence will only make things worse. So if this is something you really feel adamant about, then do something more than go sleep in front of a Target in an affluent neighborhood in Franklin. Support our troops through letters and messages, let your senators and representatives know how you feel. But don't limit your voice to a mock camping trip. Make sure that you step up and do more than sit. Speak, write, yell, if necessary but don't get caught up in the band wagon of good will without counting the cost of what you are calling for.

I totaly agree with you Robert. We cant be caught up in a band waggon but I feel that we as christians are called to be involved in the wrold's problems. Now the thing about this is that we MUST pray for God's guidence. We should not jump on the band waggon unless we feel God is calling us to get involved. I personally feel like God has called me to get involved and to do what I can to help. I know that means sacrafice. i am willing because I truly feel like God wants me to get involved. You see for so long now I have sat in my perfect world thinking all was good because i am okay. But latley God has really been opening my eyes to see that His children around the world are hurting. I was reading in 1John and one of the verses says - If one of you sees your brother in need but has no pity on him, the love of Christ is not in you. - So Im not real sure if pity just means pity or if it means taking action with our love for God's children. But I am leaning to the side of taking action. Anyways God has been kicking my butt about being so apathetic to the world outside of the US. He has been showing me I am called to get involved and help. In ancient Israel there was a common goal set by God to help the poor and that all should be taken care of. I think to myself - Wouldnt it be cool to see this standard in place today? How much would change. But the question is what does this look like and how can it happen. For that I have no idea but I do know that I want to seek God in all I do and I feel he wants me to get involved. If this involvment means getting our nation involved by my words then I feel that is what I must do. OK well i have writen a book, sorry about that. I do totally agree with you robert. I just was excited you wrote this and then that made me want to write this haha. anyways i hope you have a great day!

Psalm 10 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more. Psalm 82 3- Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. 4- Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. 8- Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are your inheritance. ... i guess every is obedient to this call in different ways. my perspective is as long as someone is being obedient to what the Lord desires them to do whether its promoting troops with encouragement, actually going to Uganda, or doing representation of what children do in front of a Target in Franklin... its all about obedience so i agree with ya to a degree

same here...i didnt know about any of this until last week. God has really put my heart in Africa since i was little, and i have been praying hard that He would show me where i was needed, because in case you havent noticed Africa is quite large. Uganda has been repeated over and over to me in more ways than just with the invisible children, so i know thats where God wants me to be. i have a heart for these people and thats why i will be in Franklin on Sat. but i will carry Uganda in my heart for as long as God wants it there and do whatever He wants me to. but i definately agree with you to an extent. and i hope you have a great day! _kt

true. yes. okay. but if everyone didn't jump on the "bandwagon" there would be no point in raising awareness. people see these things and want to know what they can do - physically...especially teenagers - high schoolers who can't do whole lot right now. they don't have the freedom or the knowledge or the finances to do so. so, they do what they can. and joining in this movement is what you can do. it's a start, it's a step toward letting people know what's going on in order to send a message to people who CAN do something more. i know you're a smart kid and i have a lot of respect for your opinion, which you know...but people who are doing the best they can probably don't appreciate being chastised (including me). we are writing letters to important political people at the global night commute. at least we're doing something.
