So easy, no wonder Carla is #1!

i wanna know what your slogan is!

dr. douglass!

September 20 2005
so i was babysitting today for megan while she went to the doctor, and the 2 kids reminded me so much of dr. douglass's kids (the kids i'm with in the pictures) and so i just decided to call him today! (fyi - he moved up to greensboro to teach at UNCG this year and i've missed his family terribly!) i was on the phone for an hour with both mittie and dr. douglass and i think i'm going to go up and visit them for fall break! oh, how i love them!

it's not even 9am yet!!!!

September 19 2005
so this morning has been horrible! i had to wake up at 6am so that i could take the dogs out before i had to be at work at 8, and the dogs were so sad that i couldn't spend any time with them. then i walked straight into a spider web where the spider was hanging like, 3 inches off of me (NO exaggeration!) and this spider was like the size of a dime. not one of those little black spiders. THEN i was late to school and when i went to maintenance to park (which it's never filled at 8am) there was NOWHERE to park! so i had to park out past cummings hall and walk to the LRC which isnt' really bad, but while walking, i dropped my black hoodie somwhere so i had to go back and retrace my steps to look for it! so i ended up being like 20 minutes late for work and i feel horrible :( hopefully my day will get better!

karaoke

September 13 2005
so i went to sing karaoke tonight at uhh....whatever bar that is at double tree hotel and had a BLAST! it was with the SAI girls and man did we have a good time! i sang a broken wing by martina and then brinn and i sang does he love you (sorry la - it was just a rehearsal for our time :) ) then i met these 2 guys who were both music people (they were older) and one of them got his undergraduate at IU (indiana) which is where i want to go so we started talking about that....it was phenomenal! he was like "you should have no problem getting into the graduate program there from what i heard tonight!" but i'm not really sure if that's true....guys, 98% of the graduates from that program go on to sing at the metropolitan opera!!!!!!!!!!!! oh only 3 more semesters......

a few truths..

September 07 2005
i got this from my friend ryan's site....

A few truths, for those who have ears and eyes and care to know the truth:

1.)
The hurricane that hit New Orleans and Mississippi and Alabama was an
astonishing tragedy. The suffering and loss of life and peace of mind
of the residents of those areas is acutely horrifying.

2.)
George Bush did not cause the hurricane. Hurricanes have been happening
for eons. George Bush did not create them or unleash this one.

3.)
George Bush did not make this one worse than others. There have been
far worse hurricanes than this before George Bush was born.

4.) There is no overwhelming evidence that global warming exists as
a man-made phenomenon. There is no clear-cut evidence that global
warming even exists. There is no clear evidence that if it does exist
it makes hurricanes more powerful or makes them aim at cities with
large numbers of poor people. If global warming is a real phenomenon,
which it may well be, it started long before George Bush was
inaugurated, and would not have been affected at all by the Kyoto
treaty, considering that Kyoto does not cover the world's worst
polluters -- China, India, and Brazil. In a word, George Bush had zero
to do with causing this hurricane. To speculate otherwise is belief in
sorcery.

5.) George Bush had nothing to do with the hurricane
contingency plans for New Orleans. Those are drawn up by New Orleans
and Louisiana. In any event, the plans were perfectly good: mandatory
evacuation. It is in no way at all George Bush's fault that about 20
percent of New Orleans neglected to follow the plan. It is not his
fault that many persons in New Orleans were too confused to realize how
dangerous the hurricane would be. They were certainly warned. It's not
George Bush's fault that there were sick people and old people and
people without cars in New Orleans. His job description does not
include making sure every adult in America has a car, is in good
health, has good sense, and is mobile.

6.) George Bush did not
cause gangsters to shoot at rescue helicopters taking people from
rooftops, did not make gang bangers rape young girls in the Superdome,
did not make looters steal hundreds of weapons, in short make New
Orleans into a living hell.

7.) George Bush is the least racist
President in mind and soul there has ever been and this is shown in his
appointments over and over. To say otherwise is scandalously untrue.

8.)
George Bush is rushing every bit of help he can to New Orleans and
Mississippi and Alabama as soon as he can. He is not a magician. It
takes time to organize huge convoys of food and now they are starting
to arrive. That they get in at all considering the lawlessness of the
city is a miracle of bravery and organization.

9.) There is not
the slightest evidence at all that the war in Iraq has diminished the
response of the government to the emergency. To say otherwise is pure
slander.

10.) If the energy the news media puts into blaming
Bush for an Act of God worsened by stupendous incompetence by the New
Orleans city authorities and the malevolence of the criminals of the
city were directed to helping the morale of the nation, we would all be
a lot better off.

11.) New Orleans is a great city with many
great people. It will recover and be greater than ever. Sticking pins
into an effigy of George Bush that does not resemble him in the
slightest will not speed the process by one day.

12.) The entire
episode is a dramatic lesson in the breathtaking callousness of
government officials at the ground level. Imagine if Hillary Clinton
had gotten her way and they were in charge of your health care.

Why is it that the snipers who shot at emergency rescuers trying to
save people in hospitals and shelters are never mentioned except in
passing, and Mr. Bush, who is turning over heaven and earth to rescue
the victims of the storm, is endlessly vilified?

What church
does Rev. Al Sharpton belong to that believes in passing blame and
singling out people by race for opprobrium and hate?

What
special abilities does the media have for deciding how much blame goes
to the federal government as opposed to the city government of New
Orleans for the aftereffects of Katrina?

If able-bodied people
refuse to obey a mandatory evacuation order for a city, have they not
assumed the risk that ill effects will happen to them?

When the
city government simply ignores its own sick and hospitalized and
elderly people in its evacuation order, is Mr. Bush to blame for that?

Is
there any problem in the world that is not Mr. Bush's fault, or have we
reverted to a belief in a sort of witchcraft where we credit a mortal
man with the ability to create terrifying storms and every other kind
of ill wind?

Where did the idea come from that salvation comes from hatred and criticism and mockery instead of love and co-operation?

philosophy class

September 06 2005
so i'm pathetic...when the story i'm about to tell you happened, i thought to myself "self, you need to write that on phusebox!" yeah...i have no life!

anyways, to the story. so i'm sititng in philosophy class (which i may add my teacher is crAAAAzy!) and we are talking about piety and "what is piety?" is it because the gods love it that it is pious, or do the gods love it because it's pious? so in order to demonstrate this, my teacher, pretending to be god, picks up the trashcan and proceeds to hug it saying "i love the trashcan, it is pious!" right at this moment, a girl (obviously lost) starts to walk into our classroom. she takes one look at our teacher and JETS out the door! it was hilarious! he was like "my lectures are quite strange if taken out of context...." i just thought that would be a humerous story to share with everyone! have a great day!

EEK! we're running out of gas!!!!!!!

good fun at starbucks!

August 27 2005
so last night i went to starbucks to hear my friend sing a jazz set and i ran into like, 15 people i knew! well, not really, but here ARE the people i ran into:
Amy Bonin
Rachael Meyer
Jennifer Hood
Adam (nathan's geeky-inagoodway-friend)
Nikki (a girl my mom used to work with)
i guess that's it, but it sure felt like a ton of people! rachel was amazing! her band was awesome and her voice was beautiful! and she even let becky and me sing a verse each in stormy weather! she's awesome :) then we went back to becky's and i tried to catch up on days of our lives but becky's vcr kept randomly turning off and finally got to a point where at the same line every time it would turn off so i gave up. does anybody have a vcr and tv they would like to let me borrow for the afternoon 0:)

so this is what MY name means! i don't about this...

Solid,
dependable and hardworking you have a fairly conservative approach to
life and know that organisation gets results. Being cautious and well
disciplined you think things through carefully before taking action.
You have your emotions under control and are rarely ruffled by
circumstances. You have confidence in yourself and are admired by
others for your integrity and honesty.

signing on from project greenbox

sadness...

August 26 2005
so i'm having to go unofficially (or maybe officially) inactive in kappa delta this semester. i had my rehearsal yesterday with ms. bell and dr. isley and afterwards dr. isley and i sat and talked about this upcoming semester. she told me i had too much on my plate and that i needed to quit my sorority. but i just can't do that. those girls mean the world to me and although i know they would still be my friends, i wouldn't have those bonding moments like this past week. but the good thing is, i can come to the things i think i can handle, and not be penalized if i don't think i can make it. and of course once rush is over, i expect things to slow down and hopefully i'll be able to attend most everything, but for now it is just impossible. if any of you girls read this, i am so very sorry but know that i am trying my hardest to still be with you. i don't want to miss out on anything - especially our new girls. thank you for the love and AOT that you guys provide and i know that i will always be able to count on you for anything and know that i would do the same for any one of you. i'll see you around

gas prices suck...

August 20 2005
ok so i don't really know of anybody that regularly buys gas at these places, but if you do, go to kroger or walmart or somewhere else instead!

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action.

Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost! of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50- $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and ! pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am ... so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK. Kerry Lyle, Director, Research Coordinator

August 13 2005
so i couldn't think of a creative title. the past couple of days have been lazy. i finished my summer class on thursday and finished work at the nashville opera last night. i feel so liberated!!! i wanted to dance for joy last night after work - never again will i have to set foot in that place and call people!!! WOOHOO!!! i will have a life again! but my marky mark is leaving for KY for grad school and his going away party is tonight...i am very sad! he enriches my life so much! but he'll be back to visit so it's ok. i got my hair cut today...it's really short! it kinda looks like monica's even though that was not my intention...oh well - sorry for stealing your haircut mon!! well, sex and the city is calling my name so i must go....cya after chicago!!!!

i got an apartment!!!

August 08 2005
so i will be living in apt 437 in 2 weeks!!! yay!!! i will finally get my computer back, and my own place! i thought i should update since i haven't in a while...geez i haven't even been online since my last post! well, i started working out last week with amber hoo and so far i've lost 2 pounds! ha - i know that's not a lot, but for working out for 5 days i think it's good! anyways, i'm just getting geared up to see cassie in 6 days....YES it is FINALLY going to happen after a year and a half! hey - but patience is a virtue right? anyways, i'm almost done with harry potter 6, and i've already semi-guessed the ending. it almost makes me not want to finish it. but that is impossible b/c i am officially obsessed until i finish it. so, until next time...

bum buzz

August 04 2005
just got home from work...kinda. after work, amber and i went to dancin in the district to hear john legend or something and he was amazing! saw jason and joel polk and kyle scoble there...they sat right in front of us! but my feet huuuuuuuurt walking all that way. then we went and did kareoke with mark and some people...mark and i sang 2 duets - let's make love which we were good at (ha!) and come what may from moulin rouge...yeah the 2nd one was a buuuuuuuum buuuuuuzz! we have to work on that one! anyways, now that i have HUUGE blisters on my feet, i'm going to bed. g'night world!

so i almost got killed...

July 31 2005
i almost got killed twice yesterday!! my friend gave me a lucky 4 leaf clover yesterday and i'm beginning to think it's not so lucky...

instance #1: so i'm driving to work saturday morning in the far right lane on the interstate. one car length in front of me in the next lane is this dirty black pickup truck. up one car length from it in the next lane over is this big 18 wheeler. so we're just truckin along, and all of the sudden, HUGE pieces of metal start flying at my car! it was coming from somewhere off the 18 wheeler! so the pickup truck decides to be stupid and swerve into my lane to avoid the shrapnel, therefore pushing me out of my lane and almost off the interstate while there are metal pieces that i cannot avoid b/c i'm too concerned with staying on the insterstate! a big piece hit my windsheild and other pieces just flew across my hood. the only damage tho is tiny scratches on my hood. ugh

instance #2: i'm driving (hmm...is there a pattern?) down northfield blvd @ pitts lane going away from campus with my friend megan ezell whom i haven't seen in forever and of course i'm not really paying attention when all of the sudden megan starts saying "don't hit the turkeys...DON'T HIT THE TURKEYS!" i look right in front of me and there is a mama turkey and like 8 little turkeys following behind her in a row (reminded me of the partridge family opening) just taking their grand 'ole time walking across this busy street! so i slam, i'm talking SLAM on my brakes so as not to hit them. i think i came within a few inches, but no harm done. and they didn't even flinch as my tires squealed and my horn blared. stupid turkeys.

fun eh? not really. i've been moving out of my apt this last week and tomorrow is my last day. 1pm tomorrow and i officially hand over the keys...sad day. i'm living at home now with all my stuff still packed and just sitting in the playroom until i can move into university courtyard...it feels weird to not have a place to go home to will all my stuff ya know? oh well...only 3 more weeks...

what does your birthday/name say about you?!

July 25 2005
