europe trip synopsis
June 25 2008
Just for you Carmen lol:
We flew into London. When we first got there, we went to Chislehurst Caves. It was pretty cold, and Keri was really scared. She hung onto to me the whole time. Our tour guide told us all these ghost type stories about the caves. The caves were used in WWII and were built by the Druids. Our first hotel was okay. It was a yachtish thing, but it was kind of small. It was better than some of the hotels (or hostel) we stayed in. Our very first meal in Europe was disgusting. They gave us a meat pile and mushy rice stuff. Literally. Keri didn't even like the rice which is very surprising since rice is like her favorite food. The next day we took a tour of Europe. We got to see where parts of the scenes of Diagon Alley of Harry Potter were filmed. We had to walk a lot. Some guy said we hit his car with our bus, so our bus driver had to get out. They argued for a while. Pretty funny. We saw the changing of the guards and Buckingham Palace. The queen wasn't home though. We went to the Tower of London which was one of my favorite places of the trip. We rode the London Eye, the largest ferris wheel in the world. When we were on it, we saw a naked couple (except for towels) on their balcony. You would think they'd know that lots of people would see them so they must not care. We met with a former member of parliament. It was pretty boring, and Keri fell asleep. While we were shopping, a girl in our group passed out. They brought the ambulance, and people were stopping to take pictures. We saw The Lord of the Rings musical which was definitely my favorite thing. We had to literally run there because dinner was a lot longer than we thought it would be. During an intermission type thing, actors came out into the audience. They were reall scary looking. I didn't want them to touch me so I started climbing over Keri. She told me to sit down so they wouldn't see I was scard and come back there. They were bothering someone in the front row (we were in the 4th row), and they made this really weird sound, so I started to climb back over Keri. They saw me and came back there. I literally jumped into Keri's lap. (As she likes to put it - went monkey on her.) After they left and I was getting back to my seat, I fell in the floor. It was pretty funny afterwords though. We went to this JFK memorial. The Steps of Individuality and the Seat of Contemplation were there. Pretty important. lol We got to go to Oxford. It was so pretty, and there were bicycles everywhere. They have this really big library and reading room that are connected by an underground tunnel. At Oxford, Keri and I got to see where the banquet hall scenes of Harry Potter were filmed. That night we went to Warwick Castle. Our tour guide person was very into character. He yelled at this girl in our group that got stung by a bee (she's allergic) and said he didn't care if she dies. He told her afterwords he was embarressed though because he didn't really realized what was going on. We learned how to stick fight, and Keri and I sword fighted. It was pretty darn cool. We had to stay overnight though, and it was absolutely freezing. The next morning we got to look around the castle. Keri and I climbed 530 stairs in the tower and ramparts part. We dubbed ourselves stair masters. We went to Stonehenge which was actually pretty cool considering. Keri made friends with a bird and named it Sir Winston. We had to ride a ferry over night to France. There were four people to a tiny room. The room was so small we couldn't even have our luggage with us. Our first day at France was in Normandy. We went to a muesum about WWII. We also went to Normandy beach and the American Cemetary. Being there made me stop and think about how many people lost their lifes. There are exactly 9,387 perfectly alligned white markers at the cemetary. We had a wreath laying ceremony while they played the national anthem and taps. We got to go to the Palace at Versailles which was absolutely beautiful. The gardens were huge. We also went to the Louvre which has the Mona Lisa. We saw Notre-Dame. The next day we went to the top of the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is pretty ugly. It's this really ugly brown. Not a nice black like a though it would be. We got more shopping time - 4 and a half hours to be exact. Extremely pointless. We did manage to get some amazing ice cream. The girl that was walking around with us got Whiskey ice cream. Keri tried it and said it was nasty. We went to this one food place. The girl that was with us didn't know her pin number for her card. The people at the cafe ran her card twice. They didn't speak English so we couldn't tell if she had paid for the food or not. So we just left. We still don't know if she stole the food or paid for it twice. In Belgium we went to a chocolate factory. We tried some chocolate, and it was delicous. We also saw the Peeing Boy statue. We only got to spend one day in Belgium. Sad. In Holland we went to a cheese and clog farm. They had some really good cheese. Our last two nights of the trip we had to stay in this hostel thing. Pretty scary. Our first room was horrible so we had to get another one. It was half the size as everyone else's in our group. There were also stains on the beds and mold in the shower. Extremely gross. So we had to go wake our delegation manager up at midnight to tell her we couldn't stay there. I think the place had to be an insane asylum previously because it smelled all sterile and there were bars on the windows. Our last day we went to Anne Frank's house. That was another one of my favorites. We couldn't take pictures though which was kind of sad. We walked through Amsterdam which had bicycles everywhere!
Overall the trip was pretty great. The people were pretty cool although some of them were pretty iffy characters. Keri had to room with a few of them, but I got lucky and never had to. A lot of the people wanted to sneak out every night. And they did a few times. There were a few girls who even wanted to sneak and with a college guy and get a cab to Amsterdam the last night. One of the girls go drunk while we there. I made a few friends. Our delegation manager, Clair was the best. Without her, we'd probably still be wandering around the London airport. Our leaders were a little less than competent. One of leaders sniffed every five seconds. His wife was one of our leaders too. She treated him like her son. We hardly ever left behind a kid in our group. It was always a leader. They were so slow. Great conversation topics though. lol The guy was such a goof. He never knew what he was talking about. I can't even count how many times someone in our group almost got ran over. They drive so crazy over there. They really only drive on the left side of the rode in England. I thought they drove on the left side everywhere in Europe. Everytime we would cross a street, we'd have to run across especially if we wanted to stay together since there were 40 of us.
Sorry this was so long. It was about two weeks though. So if you read all this kudos to you! I'll probably think of some more stuff soon...

Ready for Summer!
May 21 2008
I haven't posted anything in a while, but nothing really exciting has happened either lately. I had my dance recital last Friday. I got an award for being on the hip-hop team and a perfect attendance award. I really thought I would get Most Improved Dancer, but sadly I didn't. It's all good though. I have next year and the next year and the next year. I can't believe I only have three years left of high school. Today when all the seniors went crazy, I thought about how I'm going to feel when I'm graduating. It's going to be so awesome, but I'm also most likely going to cry. A LOT. Like Jessica put it the other day, "After high school's college, and then after college is life...and life's scary." Most likely also, I'll lose touch with my friends. Everyone says that you'll be best friends forever, but really? It's a little sad to think about. I was thinking about how people say ignorance is bliss. In a way I agree. If you don't realize how short of a time you have, you aren't worrying about making as many memories as you can. You aren't sad. If you do realize how short of a time you have, you try to make as many memories as you can. You're happy, but at the same time you're sad because you realize it's only a short amount of time before it's all over. And today we read a story about time traveling, and the teacher asked us all what's one thing you would change if you could go back in time. Mine was I only wish that I could have taken more chances and not have been afraid.
So I'm so ready for summer. This year has been so stressful, but it's still be crazy awesome. I can't wait for some chillaxing time.

So I got my braces off today. I hate my retainers because they make me talk like a retard. I didn't want to get my braces off either which is very untypical of most people. I'm really going to miss my braces. I guess it's not that bad. I can brush my teeth easier, but other than that I'm really upset about getting them off. I think my teeth looked better with braces because now my teeth look huge. Like buck teeth huge. I also have a missing tooth, so they had to build my pontac tooth into my upper retainer. So that means I can't take it out to eat at school or restarants. Well I guess I could, but it would look really weird with a big gap in my teeth. So yeah, hopefully I get used to my retainers. And I also get an invisible one for my top teeth in two weeks which will make things so much better.
What's wrong with me?
April 14 2008
The past few days I've noticed that I keep zoning out. When I come out of it, I have no clue to what's going on. And a lot of times, I hear people talking, but I don't really comprehend what they are saying. I'm just kind of looking around and nodding politely. Tonight at dance it was really bad though. Even though I've been working on the same dance for almost a year, I kept blanking out and couldn't remember what came next. I didn't really feel dizzy. Just like I didn't know what was going on. Ms. Katie (my dance teacher) kept looking at me weird and told me to sit down if I felt bad. At one time she was talking to me, but I really didn't understand what she was saying. Then Sydnee said my name and Ms. Katie started laughing I guess because I didn't respond. So I started dancing, but I just couldn't remember ANYTHING. Ms. Katie made me sit down for the rest of the class. I know this probably isn't a good thing, but I hope it's not serious. I was hoping maybe one of you guys would a clue to what's wrong with me. I really hope I don't do this this Saturday because I have a dance competition, and I don't want to look retarted. My mom wants to take me to the doctor, but I don't like bloods are needs. Actually I'm absolutely terrefied of them. So yeah...I'm a little freaked.

Happy Birthday to Me!!!
March 08 2008
So today is my birthday, and I turned fifteen. I guess it's pretty cool that it snowed on my birthday except it messed things up a little bit. It was fifteen years ago today that I was born...and it was snowing really heavy. I think that's pretty cool. Other than that it just seems like any other day. I don't feel any older. I don't get any presents today. My did get me a brownie cake though which was really tasty. Oh, and Keri and Batey called me and sang Happy Birthday to me which made me happy. I thought everyone had forgot it was birthday today. I remember in sixth grade I did forget it was birthday. I was at Leslie Littleton's birthday party, and I just totally forgot. Sad, I know. Overall, I guess I've had an OK birthday this year. At least I'm here to 'celebrate' it.
Can't I just have one day?

Our youth conference this weekend was so amazing. Probably one of the best ever. During our sermon yesterday, the preacher talked about what has really bothering me the past year. He talked about how so many Christians, me being one of them, are 'empty suits'. We have the appearance of a Chritian, but we aren't living it outside of church.
having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from those people turn away!
2 Timonthy 3:5
Last night and well into the early hours of this morning, our room talked about what the sermon meant to us. Two of the guys came to say goodnight and ended up staying in our room until about one in the morning. What started out almost getting us in to trouble, ended up being one of the revivals ever. One of the guys paticular, I really honestly feel like God spoke to him last night, and is going to continue to work on him. We aren't really best friends, but I've known him for a pretty long time. As we were talking about things he's done wrong, he actually began to cry. I felt bad at first because I was practically yelling at him, but now I feel like it made him realize he needs to really surrender his life to the Lord. I just want to ask everyone to pray for him and the rest of my youth group. Last night we found out a lot about some of the people in our youth group, and we really need some help. Just pray that we will all stop being 'empty suits' and really do something.

Would You Improv for God?
Are you one of the 5 Million + viewers who have checked out the 'Frozen Grand Central Station' You Tube video? If you haven't checked it out- here's the link.
If you have seen it, you probably had some of the same reactions as I did. It's both fascinating and freaky weird as you see 200 improv actors simultaneously freeze in place at one of the busiest places on planet earth. They are 'frozen' in mid-step, picking up papers, and all of them have obviously been trained well to stay as motionless as possible.
I'm sure the stunt brought mixed reviews. You could see that some were annoyed (i.e., those with little to no sense of humor) - and others were probably convinced the aliens had finally landed and commenced with their global body snatching plan (i.e., those with way too much free time).
Would you ever do something like that? I think I might enjoy being part of a harmless public stunt - except of course in Grand Central Station, where I'm pretty sure you'd get your wallet or purse stolen if you froze for even 5 seconds.
It seems to me that most people just go about the daily grind with little outside thought until something creative and radical happens. It also seems to me that this is true in a spiritual sense with your friends who don't know Christ as well. Sure, maybe you've had a few 'talks' about God, but after a while it gets in a rut, and you never seem to get beyond a certain point - right?
Ah - but this video gives me an idea that just might help you in this area. No, freezing in place in a crowded public area is not what I had in mind, but doing something creative and radical for God publicly in front of your friends is one of the best 'rut killers' around. For most people these days, the God talk tends to remain just that...talk...that is until it's backed up with radical action.
And it's not like this is a new plan or anything. It's actually one of the primary strategies that people in the Bible have used for centuries. Here's a short list:
Noah - built a gihugical boat. How is that radical? Well, since it had probably never rained or flooded before, the entire population of the world thought Noah was one French fry short of a Happy Meal. But aren't you glad he went ahead with his public project? Yep, he saved civilization.
Joseph - dared to tell the Pharaoh of Egypt that he could interpret dreams. If he blew it, he'd be toast inside a few seconds. But he went ahead with the triple dog dare, and - oh yes, saved civilization.
Daniel - threw open the shutters of his home and prayed to the God that was despised by the all his neighbors - even though it could bring him the death penalty. And it did. Only instead of death, he gained some new furry friends in the lion's den.
I could go on and on - but do you know who completed the most radical and life changing public act of all time? You guessed it - God Himself. He was so desperate and crazy in love with the people of planet earth that He came down here wrapped in flesh. He lived a perfect public (and private) life, led a miraculous public ministry (can you say feeding 5000 folks from 5 loaves of bread and two sardines?), and of course, He died one of the most cruel - and public- deaths that you could ever imagine. Oh yeah, then He came back from the grave and appeared in public to over 500 people in 40 days.
Talk about a radical and creative way to get people's attention for God!
And it worked. Now it's your turn. Auction off your iPod to give money to the poor, skip a movie and volunteer at a homeless shelter. Start a public blog that does nothing but investigate the claims of Jesus. Pass out pro-life flyers near an abortion clinic. Use your imagination - but keep it completely motivated by this message:
For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
Freezing in Grand Central Station is cool - but even cooler would be to do something that caught the attention of people around you and turned it - not to You Tube...but to the God who wants an eternal relationship with them.
Head: What you need to know about this truth
People who don't have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ need to see radical and creative evidence of vital and authentic Christianity.
Heart: What you need to feel about this truth
Simple question: If you were put on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough physical evidence to convict you? If not - perhaps it's time for a heart check and a lifestyle shift.
Hands: What you need to do about this truth
Write down a few ideas you have about radical and creative ways to show the world that you are a Christian, then get together with your youth leader and youth group to discuss how you could put those ideas into action.
