PhuseBox Servers Down

September 12 2005
PhuseBox User,

If you tried to access the PhuseBox site on
September 12, 2005, you may have found that the site was down. Our
servers for PhuseBox were taken down as a massive power outage occurred
in Los Angeles, CA. PhuseBox, along with several other major websites,
were unavailable as a result.

The PhuseBox staff apologizes for
any inconvenience this may have caused. Hopefully, something of this
nature will not bring down our servers in the future.

Thanks again for making PhuseBox a great site!

9/11 4 Years Later

September 11 2005
So, tonight, I decided to walk down to Ground Zero since it is the four year anniversary of the day that changed America. Four years ago, I would have never guessed that I would be walking right next to where those buildings stood.

The mood on that block tonight was unreal, almost eerie. As and family came to place flowers in memory of their loved ones, others just stood in awe. There were so many candles lit, each representing some person's life that was taken that day. Unbelievable. It is strange how tonight, it was if no one was able to hold their New Yorker face on. No one was able to "not care." It was impossible.

I decided to take my camera along to report back to PhuseBox, so here is the recap:

So Where is the Coldplay Concert Review?

September 10 2005

So, I usually recap events that I go to for the PhuseBox community. My site has been lacking the Coldplay concert recap for several days now. This is mainly because I did not have very many photos until Susan uploaded some... So here it is.

The concert was AMAZING. I do not think too many things can top a Coldplay concert in New York City at Madison Square Garden ("the garden" in nyc slang). I am still debating whether this concert beats out the Something Corporate concert at RCKTWN as the best concert I have ever been to... The visuals were unbelievable... super-widescreen with visual effects during the whole concert. awesome.

night recap:
joshua tree (46th st.) for dinner (where else on concert night?) with ellie, maria, susan, and meredith.
coldplay concert at madison square garden: i sat with lane, jordan, and susan. we had separate tickets from the rest of the gang.
starbucks in times square: fantastic post-concert snack.

so here is the dark room recap:

Apple Announces iPod Nano

September 07 2005
Today, at a special event, Apple announced the iPod Nano (and the death of the iPod mini). This thing looks amazing.

iPod Nano

The iPod nano will sport a color screen and will be available in 4GB or 2GB starting tomorrow.

The thing is tiny and incredibly thin.
In other Apple-related news, they also announced the ROKR, a phone that will be manufactured by Motorola and will be able to hold 100 songs from iTunes. Also, iTunes 5 will be out soon with a more intuitive interface.

All these announcements are good. The ROKR left me slightly disappointed, but the iPod nano made up for it. This will most definitely be the most popular item this Christmas... I have a 30GB iPod Photo and even I want one. They are so small...

Blogging From Sheep Meadow

September 02 2005

So, right now I am blogging from the middle of Sheep Meadow in Central Park. It is amazing to me that I can sit in the middle of a HUGE field and have access to the internet... sure I had to pay an independent wireless ISP $9.95 for 10 hours of access, but hey, that is better than paying $20 per month at Starbucks. Anyways, I need to relax like this more often. I usually fill my time with work, PhuseBox stuff, or small side-projects. I find it hard to just sit sometimes. Anyways, I am out, but first some photos of me relaxing evening in the middle of Central Park:

Craigslist Turns into Missing Billboard

August 30 2005
Craigslist.com has been notorious for helping people find great apartments and jobs for years, but now it is being used for a new purpose. In lew of what has happened in New Orleans, the lost and found section on Craigslist is now being used by and family members to post information about missing people in hopes of reconnecting with loved ones.

This is the first time that I can think of where a service on the internet has been used to help locate and family after a natural disaster. Who said technology was bad?

CNN Weatherman Loses It

Hurricane Katrina Hits New Orleans

August 29 2005
I found an extremely interesting article written on the Popular Mechanics website back in September of 2001 about the devistation that faced New Orleans if it ever was hit by a Category 5 hurricane, such as Hurricane Katrina. Basically, since New Orleans is below sea level, the article introduces the fact that the water will have no place to "leave" and New Orleans will be submerged in water for good.

You should definitely give this article a read.

New Orleans is Sinking

Hurricane Katrina

August 28 2005

Watching all of this coverage of hurricane Katrina on CNN makes me think of the movie The Perfect Storm. But seriously, this will probably turn out to be one of the worst hurricanes in years. Keep the people of New Orleans and surrounding areas in your prayers.

I just heard a report that this hurricane will still be a Category 4 hurricane when it moves into Alabama. Wow.

Keep track with Hurricane Katrina on CNN

PhuseBox Turns 3 Months

August 28 2005

Today marks the 3-month mileston for PhuseBox.net. As of right now, we have 832 users and that number grows everyday. It is exciting to see the site grow with new users. The huge success in just a few months has really taken me by surprise.

I am continuing to work on the greenbox project. The new design and features are definitely worth the wait and should be ready soon, probably within the month of September. Hopefully this will coencide with our 1,000 user.

Thanks to everyone that has made what it is and continue to spread the site. I will always make effort to take into consideration the thoughts and suggestions from users to make even better.

I hope everyone has a great week and feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions.

Little Manhattan Premier and Review

August 27 2005

Tonight, I had the opportunity to attend the world premier of Little Manhattan. I had never been to a world premiere of a movie before, but now that I live in New York City, I guess I have to do these things. And to make things even better, the premiere was in the midddle of Central Park.

The movie is a simple love story between a young 10-year-old boy and his friend in the heart of New York City. Here is the short summery from Yahoo Movies:

"New York City is the most romantic place in the world - even if you're
only 10 years old and falling in love for the first time. That's what
young Gabe discovers as he pursues the object of his affections, his
classmate Rosemary, in LITTLE MANHATTAN. The romantic comedy is about
life, love and the Big Apple, as seen through the eyes of a
fifth-grader."

The cast a production team was there for the premiere including Bradley
Whitford
(of West Wing fame) and Cynthia Nixon (from Sex in the City). It was a great experience and a great movie, and very clean. It is defintely a movie to see with the family or a girlfriend (definitely not good for a guys not out). And, what makes it worthwhile is the fact that it is not a cheezy kids movie... it is a true, down-to-earth young love story that brings back memories of that crush in elementary school.

It was fun to see scenes from the movie set around 72nd Street, a block from where I work. There was also many scenes from Central Park, and we were right there. Awesome. I love this city.

I give this movie two thumbs up and a recommendation if you enjoy "cute" movies. It hits theaters September 30th.

The Meaning of My Name

August 27 2005

In the past few days, many PhuseBox users have been posting the meaning of their names to their page from This Site.

I thought I would join in and post mine.

The meaning of "Nathan Thomas Moore":
"Your charm and confident personality assures your popularity and brings you many admirers. Your analytical mind and social concerns may draw you towards science or humanitarian projects. Idealistic and charitable you use your influence as far as possible to achieve positive change in the world. You are a generous person with pure motives always willing to share your material prosperity with others."

Seems pretty close. I also wanted to post another interesting name:

The meaning of "Adolf Hitler":
"Charming, poised and sociable you need peace and harmony around you and always seek to create a happy environment. Perceptive and with strong intuition you are able to make sound judgements. You show great flexibility in attitude being open and responsive to the needs and opinions of others. This ability gives you potential for success in business dealing with the public. Your warm personality and caring ways ensure you are loved by family and friends."

I thought that was pretty humorous.

The Muppets Take Central Park

August 26 2005

So tonight, a few of us went to some film festival in Central Park to see The Muppets Take Manhattan. It was so much fun. It was weird because a few parts actually were shot in Central Park... and we were like, "That's where we are...."

Anyways, despite the HORRIBLE acting and the despiteful early 80's clothing, it was a pretty good movie and it made it even better by being in Central Park on a HUGE screen. I love this city.

Here's the visual recap:

Meredith never really looks at a camera... unless she is behind it.

Susan "raising the roof"

i look dead in this photo. i was really finger dancing.

The weather was perfect tonight... not too hot, not too cold... you know... the whole goldilocks thing.

ok. your visual recap has come to a close. We are going back tomorrow to see the premiere of some movie that hits theaters at the end of september. I hope it is as good as tonight.

Lunch in Central Park

August 26 2005
So today, a few of us from the office decided to go to Central Park for lunch. The weather was PERF (as Meredith would say). We found a huge rock and sat and enjoyed our food whilst attempting to feed the birds by hand. Let me tell you, birds are scared of 6 ft. 4 inch Nathan whether they are from or not. Needless to say, I did not feed the birds by hand...
Now for photos...

people on a rock. they are cool people. but not as cool as that rock!

ok. so Maria thinks this growth on this tree looks like a dog. what do you think? i think it looks like the tree has a tumor!

this is me after i conquered the rock.

ok. So lunch in Central Park was great, and just so you know, I still miss everyone in Murfreesboro... don't think that lunch in Central Park has stolen my heart. Have a great day!

Google Talk is Live

August 23 2005

Google Talk, Google's much anticipated and rumored instant messaging client was released just minutes ago. With a Jabber open-source backend, Google Talk is able to communicate not only with other Google Talk users but also several chat systems such as the highly populated AIM.

Google also is audio chat enabled, rivaling Skype networks. This voice chat feature is sure to catch on quickly and with Google's advanced R&D, it is almost certain to blow Skype and other similar services from existence.

This is yet another move that will put Google head to head with other companies in technologies other than search.

Head over to Google Talk to download the Google Talk chat client.

And if you want a stock tip, Google Stock  shows no signs of slowing down even at $279.58 per share. This stock will continue to go up until Google pulls the plug on their R&D center (which does not look like will happen for quite some time). Funny how a few college students can turn a small search project into one of the largest companies on the planet.

PHUSEBOX: 800 Users

August 22 2005
Tonight, finally reached 800 users (awesome)! Continue to spread the word about the site. I am continuing to work on the greenbox project and it is really starting to take shape. As many of you know, I am recoding the new version from scratch and so it will be much better with many more features.

One of the coolest new features that many users will enjoy is the ability to easily publish as many photos into an entry with a simple click... and you are able to preview your entry (with photos) as you type... very nice.

Feel free to continue to let me know of features that you would like to see in the new version of the site!
