Motorcycle Course
July 30 2006
I took a MOTORCYCLE SAFETY COURSE this past weekend and learned how to ride a motorcycle. There was a test at the end... I passed, and did well. It's funny going from losing contole while walking a motocycle across a parking lot (letting it idle and 3/4 pull you) to taking a 135 degree turn at 15mph and only having a 2 foot path to travel and nailing it, and all this in 2 days (which isn't that easy).
I learned a LOT. Anyone considering getting a motorcycle or who is
interested SHOULD take this course. It's amazing. I think I've decided
to get a Honda Rebel. It's a smaller bike, but after riding 250's for
the last 2 days, I'm sure the Honda Rebel 250 is not short on power. It
can go interstate speed for somewhat limited periods of time (like
maybe out to the Jensen's kind of riding). This bike is $3000 new, so
I'm hoping to pick up a used one for much cheaper…. If anyone knows of one let me know.

For any one who doesn't know, the Motorcycle Safety Class was developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (www.msf-usa.org). The sole purpose of the class is to teach people how to ride safely. What they do with the training is up to them. The instructors, myself included, hope that all students will take it seriously and put it to use. Paul and Josh both did well. Not perfect, but better than average.
By the way Paul, the path of travel in the curve is 4 feet wide.
A perfect score on the curve is 2.9 seconds from beginning to end without crossing the lines, or several other things that you could do wrong. Paul and Josh had identical times of 2.97 seconds. Not perfect, but well above average. I was proud of them and very pleased with their attitudes the entire weekend. The other instructors noticed too.
